Pregnancy Headaches

Thread Starter
My sister is in her 12th week of pregnancy, so the beginning of the 2nd trimester. She has had headaches for the past 3 days that have not gone away. She drinks lots of water, and generally eats a traditional foods style diet, although I think she has not been eating enough this past week, as she is away from home and not prepping her own food. (She is staying at our mom's house while her dh is renovating their house, and she's been eating what my mom eats, which, during the daytime, is mostly just salads w/ veggies, maybe some fruit--not enough meat or fat.) She typically eats more meat/fat than that, which I think might be connected--she has been feeling hungry and not had snacks/food w/ her at work or at my mom's. (I'm hounding her a/b making sure she eats when she's hungry, and upping the good meats and fats etc, believe me!) I'm wondering if her just not enough food is causing these issues...(And if it's possibly causing her to detox in some manner, hence the headaches??)

Anyway, are headaches in 2nd trimester 'normal'? What causes them, and any ideas of natural remedies to help her through them? Are they related to nutrient deficiencies in any way? Could it be she's just not eating enough this week?

Any thoughts are appreciated!

I don't know, but I've been having headaches for 5+ days now, and somewhat sick, which I'm sure is related. Is it hot where you are? Is she getting enough fluids? Enough salt?

My appetite has been no good lately, so I'd think the lack of food could have something to do with it, too.

Sorry, no answers, but I will be watching for any hints anyone else can come up with!

Headaches can be associated with increasing progesterone levels, so it could be a good sign, as progesterone increases as the placenta takes over its production.
But also, a diet she's not used to could be the culprit, esp if the protein/sugar balance is different.
