Laborade recipes?

I want to make some laborade. Anyone have any recipes to share? How soon ahead of my EDD should I make it? How do I store it? Fridge? Freezer? How much should I drink during labor?

Wish I had thought about this, man did I need some. If I could do it all over again, I'd have plenty of coconut water on hand. That's my current fave.

How does it taste and how do you get it?

Hmm, how does it taste? Well light and coconutty, but not at all too sweet. Maybe a little thicker than water, but much better than gatorade or powerade. I mention those only because it has similar electrolyte benefits, without the fake taste.

If you don't like coconut, you might not like this, but it's not at all overpowering.

You can get it at some health food stores; I got a case of mine from amazon.com.

There are three main kinds: O.N.E., Vitacoco, and a really expensive one that's supposed to be great. Forgot the name. I prefer Vitacoco of the first two:

Check out the claims about coconut water. As far as I know they are true, but crazy! In tropical areas, it is sometimes used as IV fluid, as it is sterile out of the shell. Good to give to infants and children instead of Pedilyte. It's miracle stuff, seems perfect for labor!

I (well, actually my DH) made my laborade with 1/2 juice and 1/2 water. There was no need to prep anything in advance. I had two different kinds of juice on hand: Santa Cruz organic berry nectar and apricot juice. Make sure you check the nutrition info on the back and pick a juice that has a lot of potassium.

Hi there,

About 20 hours into my labor I didn't feel like eating much; my midwife had DH mix in a few packets of Emergen-C (sold at Whole Foods and some drugstores) into water with ice. The cold, the fizz, I don't know what was the best part, but it was sooo helpful to me - just gave me the pick-me-up I needed to keep on going. Good luck!
