Does anyone else's baby prefer showers to baths?

When DD was 4 days old she had her first explosive poo. It exploded all over me, so I handed her to DH and got in the shower. I had him hand DD to me so I could wash both of us off. The water was at the temperature that I normally shower, pretty hot. As he was handing her to me, I began to protest, telling him that the water was too hot for a baby. Some of the water had already gotten on her and she didnt seem to care at all, so I went ahead and brought her into the shower with me. She LOVED it, which is good because we dont have a bathtub.

Now, shes almost 4 months old and I have tried several times to give her a bath in her own personal tabletop bathtub. She hates it. She cries and doesnt play in the water and is pretty miserable the whole time. She loves getting in the swimming pool, so its not an issue of having her whole body in the water. Ive tried several different temperatures in her bath, but I get the same reaction every time. Its not an issue of wanting to be held in the water, because I dont hold her in the shower while I am bathing myself (she has a little mesh recliner chair that she sits in and kicks and coos and plays while I shower).

When I tell people that she likes to take showers, they always say, "Weird, Ive never heard if anyone doing that".

Is it really that uncommon?

Im interested to find out about other's bathtime habits.

My ds also loves showers, though he doesn't mind baths.

Cecilia loves baths, but only if they're with me. She also hated the tabletop or sink style baths. I think she just craves the human contact. We take both baths and showers together, and she loves them both.

DS loves both, but prefers showers. Incidentally, we have probably the same mesh shower chair thingy and he LOVES that thing whether he's in the shower or not. When we shower, I have him in a water sling or DH and I both get in and trade him off, but I may have to try the seat. Although, be careful about rolling out of that chair-he started trying to do that a couple of weeks ago.

DD will put up with a shower, but doesn't "enjoy" it.
We usually do those pretty quickly.
Baths, she loves and will stay in with me or by herself for awhile.

Love the showers over here too. We've done a few baths, maybe 4 total in a little baby tub. They were ok for her, but not a favorite activity. Probably the best tub time was outside on a 90 degree day with warm water. Many times I think she is getting cold in the tub.

we do both.
showers when we're being efficient and baths for fun and better hair washing.

First of all, I must know: What is a water sling? I've never seen one.

I'll bet we do have the same mesh chair. She loves it to sit in all the time. Although, she has begun to get out of it, so no more sitting her in it while I wash the dishes. Maybe Ill make a strap for it.

Yes, do tell. What is a water sling?
I'm imagining a ring sling type thingy made out of mesh or something.

That's exactly what it is! If you get one made of SolarVeil it's also UVA/UVB protected and can be used in pools.

DS2 is 8 months and loves showers! I also use a water sling w/him most of the time. I have a mesh pouch that someone gave me, and also a water ring sling that I made so either DH or I can wear him in it. He's had way more showers than baths since he was born.

He does love his baths/swimming pool/hot tub also. It's just easier to bring him into the shower w/me.

My 10 mo hates baths. Period. He's not terribly fond of showers, either, but I just pop him in the water sling and he buries his head in my neck and doesn't complain. In the bath he screams.

I think DS has had only one or two baths. Showering for us was just way easier when he was really little - and then from 3mos to 9mos we were living in an apartment while our house was being renovated and the tub didn't stop up properly to create a bath - we were there temporarily so didn't bother to try and fix it and just kept showering - I really enjoyed having a nightly shower with him.

and its still fun! he really likes it (he's a bit over a year) and yeah, folks think its odd but I think it saves time and he isn't scared of water on his face which is good I suppose. We don't use a sling or anything, I just hold him. I've gotten pretty good at shampooing him, cleaning with the one hand free. DH takes him out after a bit, and then I stay 5min longer to clean myself. Very efficient

Showering kids is so much easier for getting them clean! All my babies have taken showers. They only liked baths with me (and now with their older siblings) and bathtime is mostly just for playing. I do think it's unusual for babies to be showered, but very sensible, imho. I have 3 LO's and we do rotating showers, with me or DH in the shower doing the kid washing, and the other parent drying and dressing, one kid in after the other. It's the fastest way to get them all scrubbed!

This is what we have. I actually think the solarveil company quit making them, but I've seen them online randomly. It's very fine mesh-like material but to me it looks like linen. It's great for the shower, pool, or even just walking around. I've seen other mesh types other than solarveil, but I think they have to be wet to use to catch in the rings.

I just use a ring sling in the shower. My dd loves baths with me, or showers with me in the sling. In the infant tub, she seems bored some of the time.
