looking for theories re: measuring large

i always measure 5-6 cm's larger than i am, from 20 weeks on, and always go on to produce average sized, 7-8 pound babies. i measured 33/34 cm's today at 28 weeks along. is this just a crummy standard of measurement, or can anyone think of a possible reason for why? i'm very short torsoe'd, but that still doesn't stand to my reason. lots of amniotic fluid? perhaps, but thus was not the case w/ my 1st when my care was overseen by an OB (4 babies ago). this just seems to be my normal since all my babies arrive w/o incident/issues. no history of GD either, ftr.

i'm just stumped. i'm ok w/ stumped, but prefer to have a theory by now.

just how you carry. you probably carry more outside of your torso than inside ... like tilted forward... giving them more uterus to measure than someone whose belly is tilted in more... probably also making you appear larger than other pregnant women who are the same length of pregnancy as you? (usually this results in a LOT of people asking if its twins... even when it very obviously isnt!)

Certainly not an issue at all, though I know its frustrating!

that's an interesting theory. hadn't thought of that. so maybe being short torsoe'd *does* play a role. (less room for uterus to rest/hide "inside")

maybe, but Ive seen short torsoed women who carry very compactly (very much inside the torso) and barely look pregnant even just before the baby is born. So its more how your body carries the uterus than the shape of your torso itself.

This can also change baby to baby, due to various ligaments and such stretching out, which explains why you didnt measure off with the first one but did with the others.

I think the length of a womans torso plays a huge role in it. I measure large from twenty weeks on as well. My first OB over reacted, convinced something was wrong, my dates were off, or that I was going to have a record breaking sized baby. My OB this time around hadn't said a peep about it, and when I asked to day what I was at, he said "44, but you have a very small torso and are short, so I'm not concered.".

According to my records I measured on until about 20 weeks and by 30 weeks I was measuring at 40+

In my case it's that I'm not very tall (5'3) and I did have extra fluid.

maeryn,

no, i still measured this way w/ my 1st. my point w/ mentioning that one was that even w/ care thru an OB, even he--w/ all his GD and U/S testing, was stumped. (but boy was he paranoid!)
