Plus Size Boppy?

Those Boppy things look pretty useful for breast feeding and to support a seated infant. I was a size 16 pre-pregnancy, will a Boppy fit around me?

I bought mine used from a Mama who looked to be about a size 18 or more. She said she wore it around her as well as some other positions.

It will work, mama!

I was a size 18 post partum with DS1, and loved my boppy.

I'm plus and I love the My Brest Friend; I have heard some say they work better for bigger mamas, but I've never tried a Boppy.

I hated the Boppy- the surface isn't flat so it felt like the baby kept rolling toward me while nursing. Plus, it didn't feel like it fit (I'm about your size).

I switched to the My Breast Friend and liked it MUCH more. It is adjustable with a velcro strap.

The worst part of it was the name. "My Breast Friend?" Really?

I'm a pretty solid 24 and was a 26 or so for a little bit shortly after delivery. I tried my friend's BreastFriend pillow and it wouldn't go around me at all. My Boppy works great.

I wonder if it also depends on your shape - I'm kind of a figure-8 (not thin enough at the waist to be an hourglass.)

I have a few friends that are "apple shaped" and they had the same experience. Friends that are more hourglass or "inverted triangle" shaped haven't liked the Boppy as much.

Yeah, well, I'm sort of hourglass but for my big pooch, and I like the My Brest Friend a bit better the first time, with ds, but found it encumbering with dd. I think it also depends on what kind of seating you have. But I hated the Boppy, probably used it only a handful of times. Wouldn't hurt to find a place you can try both out. But of course your shape will change a bit post-baby.

Oooh, good thread!! I've been wondering the exact same thing!

YES! Although I lost weight with my 7lb-er, went to a 12 just after birth. And the boppy was great and snuggly. But even when I gained back to my normal 16, it still worked. And by that time, he was comfortable with it.
With my big boobs (FF after birth), I had to utilize the football hold only, the only way he'd latch properly. And he needed that extra (the part that almost kicks away from your side) to keep his feet up enough. So, even if it didn't wrap right, it was perfect for what he needed to stay in the right position.
Granted, we eventually just used house pillows to prop him up, it was really helpful in the beginning.

I used the Boppy more for a pillow for me than for nursing (I also found that it helped support my arm/elbow after the tenth straight hour that DS insisted on being held), but it always fit fine and I'm definitely plus-sized.

I'm firmly in the Boppy loving group myself. I tried My Brest Friend and I didn't like how cumbersome it was to put on; the Boppy is way easier. And I didn't like the "positioner" bumps on the top of it at all either. I also had to nurse Cecilia in exclusively football hold at first, and the Boppy's been great for both football and traditional cradle (what I call my "Boppy hold" since I don't really hold her, the pillow does! )

I was about a 12 after birth and couldn't use the boppy, it felt like it didn't fit and she kept rolling toward me. I ended up just sitting in a big armchair kind of sideways and propping up my feet.

I was an 18/20 pre-baby, and am easily a 22 post-baby and it fits me fine.
Im about a 20, and while i could never really use the boppy in the cradle hold, in truth my proportions dont allow for easy bfing inthe cradle hold. it was indispensible for the football hold, though. We used it for almost every nursing session until the 9 mo nursing strike.

I'm an 18/20 and loved our boppy. The newer version has a stretchier panel in the middle. Though I haven't tried any other nursing pillows.

I've used both the boppy and the breast friend at a size 26. Both worked well, though I do agree the breast friend is more to deal with. I had a hard time doing the cradle w/ the boppy so used it for football hold and used the breast friend for cradle.

I found I couldn't use the boppy until my babes were less floppy, and I really just needed a buffer against their weight. It does stretch wide, though, so I think it will be just fine for you! I LOVED my Cuddoozle pillow - it's got a flat surface, plus the "pillow" part is covered in PUL so you can wipe it clean when it gets spit up on.

Thanks for the info ladies. I'm going to try some on at the store--actually didn't realize there were alternatives to the boppy.
