Allergic to the carpet??

DS (just turned 7mo) spent the day army crawling around the play room. I noticed a little eczema on his legs (fairly typical for ds) and red elbows but wasn't too concerned until I realized it continually got worse as the day went on and by the end of the day his thighs were AWFUL!

Does anyone here have any ideas? Could he really be allergic to something in the carpet? I know I don't even want to know what our carpet is made of but has anyone else found this to be an issue?

I'll be putting ds in pants and long sleeves tomorrow to see if it clears up.

Our problem has always been the dust mites in the carpet, one reason of many why I don't like having carpet in the house.

A former neighbor of mine had a son who had reactions to the carpet itself, he had asthma and tons of allergies and she said his problem with the carpet was the polyester. She ended up replacing all of their carpet with hardwood.

I know that some brands of carpet (I don't know if it is the fibers or the backing) are made from corn, and corn is a common allergen.

Is there any way you could find out what brand of carpet you have?

I doubt I would be able to determine brand. Our house was one purchased as a flip and the majority of the work was done by the owner or their handy man. The carpet was not professionally laid so I wouldn't be able to track it that way.
If dust mites were the issue wouldn't it show in other areas of the house like when he was learning to roll over and was on a blanket on the floor? or on my bed?

My son had a reaction like that from cat dander. The previous homeowners had cats, and we were told that dander in a carpet is almost impossible to remove.
