I have a terrible memory

My memory is terrible. If you and I have a conversation, chances are I won't remember what we talked about the next day. I have to make a list if want to get things done or I will forget at least one thing. I'm forgetting dates (like DS's 3rd bday is tomorrow, I completely forgot, what mother does that?).

After having 3 kids back to back and now I'm going to school full time online, I feel like my brain is fried. I'm looking for suggestions on how to improve my memory via cleanse, supplements, anything. I feel like my 88 year old grandma!

The supplement that seems most commonly mentioned is ginko.

There are things that can cause impaired memory functioning. Mercury toxicity comes to mind (something I'm investigating in myself). Also certain nutritional deficiencies (like B12). If you feel your memory has really gotten much worse than it was a few years ago then I think a visit to your HCP is in order to investigate possible causes.

Sorry, I know that's not much help. I'm sure other mamas will chime in with more helpful info!

BTW can you give us a few more details on your background? Any other symptoms/health problems? Sleep deprivation (I bet with 3 kids back to back! )? What's your diet like?

You could just be exhausted w/school, kids etc... But the PP was right in mentioning B 12 (other B vitamin deficiency could be the culprit too). Also get your thyroid checked. Many people have memory problems due to an imbalance in their thyroid. There are many threads on thyroid and what's ideal and what's not here on MDC so I'd check them out.

take DMAE H3 by twinlab. It is a liquid and it tastes HORRIBLE, take 10 drops in a shot of orange juice every day. You will be amazed at your memory in about 2 weeks

Talk about a bad memory. I remembered today that I started a thread last week, but I couldn't remember what it was about.

My general background is I have 4 kids (11, 7, 5, and 3). I go to school online full time (off for the summer right now). DH and I are the PTO president, secretary, and treasurer at our children's elementary school. I eat a WAPF diet for the most part with an occasional take out pizza. I don't drink or smoke. I sleep 8 hours every night.

My health has been declining a bit in some ways and better in other ways. I never get sick anymore since I started taking vitamin D last August. I have had one mild stomach bug and zero colds. On the negative side, my face has been breaking out really bad since Oct 09. It got better in Feb this year because I did two months of antibiotics. During this time, I did go heavy on the probiotics. I've been taking them daily anyway since I started Vit D. I've been feeling fatigued and my memory is fading rapidly. I fear for the next semester of school because I wonder if I'll be able to remember deadlines.

I did have a round of blood tests during the antibiotic period. My thyroid was normal. The only thing that was off was my blood sugar which was 103 (fasting). She told me to watch it on the sugar. So far I've been kind of lagging on it.

That's about it. I'll read up on your suggestions in the meantime. Thank you!
