It's serious: http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,596862,00.html

“A durable and effective universal influenza vaccine would have enormous ramifications for the control of influenza, a disease that claims an estimated 250,000 to 500,000 lives annually, including an average of 36,000 in the United States.”
Can I just say I hate when they throw those numbers out there? Doesn't the Dr. Sears book say that the "flu deaths" are combined with "pneumonia deaths" or something?

I wonder how the pharmaceutical companies feel about this. It would mean a one time vaccine, instead of yearly. That's a lot of lost sales.

And yes, the 36,000 number is totally made up. It also includes people who died from the chemo drug ribavirin given at the hospital when they entered with flu complications. http://www.ageofautism.com/2010/06/c...-the-dark.html

Those were my first thoughts, too. Also, then there would be no need for pandemic vaccines. Lots of money would be lost.

I hate scare tactics like that. They also don't mention how many people were already immune compromised or go the flu on top of something else.

I wonder if the study is going to run into a "problem" and get shut down...the "problem" being Big Pharma of course.

It didn't mention how often one requires boosters... Or if it still would be required yearly... Just that "all strains" are covered.... And I'm sure it would be very expensive!

This "new" flu shot made me very nervous when reading it on msnbc. I am very anti-vax, but some of the new shots the pharma keep coming out with are making me more uncomfortable...I feel like they are reaching. Trying to vax for anything, everything and I feel they are rushing the saftey procedures! Maybe I'm wrong, but I know that I won't be getting this 2 shot combo anytime soon. I did not see anything about boosters, just the 2 shots. Yuck.
