How much time do you spend in the kitchen? - Page 2

Not too much. I have a 4- and 5-year-old who are getting big enough to help themselves to pre-prepped things in the fridge or from the snack shelf. We do quick & easy breakfasts -- yogurt, eggs, something like that. Lunches are often cold -- veggies and dip, hummus, wraps, etc. -- and fairly quick. DH does the dishes and we take turns making dinner. When I'm canning, I'll spend a significant time in the kitchen, but that comes up a handful of times a year. It's not an every day sort of project.

I feel like I live in the kitchen and sometimes take breaks from it to do other things.

It's worse since I got serious about healthy eating. Fruits and vegies may not need much cooking, but making a salad takes more time than grabbing chips.

Then we decided to get cut down our food budget, so I buy things in bulk when they are on sale and re-package them. Does meal planning count as time in the kitchen?

Most meals here are made from scratch. Family fun is often a picnic. My DH takes his lunch. It's just a lot of food.

I always wear supportive shoes when I work in the kitchen. Standing on a tile floor without decent shoes for hours of the day would kill me feet. We moved this summer and went off and left my under the counter stereo, so I'm looking for a new one. I'm enjoy my kitchen time more with music!

Not much lately, probably 2 hours at most per day including dishes and cleaning. I am such a slacker cook lately! I buy frozen veggies and make stir fries a lot. :P

easily half my day or more. making practically everything from scratch, especially vegan food, is very time consuming. but i love it.

I probably spend between 3-4 hours in the kitchen most days. I find working in the kitchen relaxing so it doesn't bother me.

Depends on the day. The other day we had livestock emergencies due to the extreme heat (109 and very humid), so not much cooking. Thankfully I scored a home made frozen lasagne from the back of the freezer, lol. I had made zucchini pancakes for a snack since we were so busy.

Most days, though, I'd say I spend 2-3 hrs. I do not do dishes, but I clean up well when I cook (I'm a clean as you cook kinda gal).

Does butchering/meat processing work count? I do the processing in my kitchen (we raise most of our own meat). If so, then there are times when I spend 2 whole days in the kitchen, minus time to sleep.

Then there is canning and gardening. Obviously that's seasonal, but when we do canning we do it big. I also freeze and dehydrate alot of produce.

My kids eat constantly. They are tall and growing like crazy, w/my 11 yo dd wearing a size 10 women's shoe! Then when the kids next door (all 4 of them) come over, they all want a snack, too, lol.

I do not cook breakfasts, unless it's something I can do the night before. Like baked oatmeal, or cooking some bacon and biscuits, and the 2 middle ones can cook their own eggs and grate some cheese to put on the biscuit. I might make a batch of muffins or quiche cups at night, too. I keep boiled eggs and pickled quail eggs in the fridge at all times, too.

Almost all suppers are from scratch. I get my 11 yo to do some prep work a couple of nights a week, and if her 21 yo sis is home from work, she helps too. The oldest has one night a week to prepare supper. My 11 yo is about to get a night, too. I've been thinking of having the 11 and the 9 yo do a night together, actually.

When we are running low on grab and go type of snacks (fruits, crackers, string cheese, yogurt, etc.) I spend more time making snacks to pull us thru 'til next grocery shopping day (I try not to just get other stuff and just use what we have even if it's more work for me). Lately I've been making yogurt and using up frozen berries on it.

Not as much time as I'd like! I love being in the kitchen. We have hardwood floors, and a shock absorbing mat, so it's very comfortable to stand in. I also have an in-ceiling stereo speaker with music I can control through an iPod in my kitchen. I love dancing and cooking in my kitchen. It helps that we just moved and have awesome appliances that actually work (our last house, the rental appliacnes were pretty unreliable). I could cook for hours and hours if only I didn't have to also take the kids outside, change diapers, feed the baby, do laundry, and all that.

I spend the majority of my day there, and I love it. I would spend more time if I could! Of course, I have my pretty lazy days and we will have quick and simple or left-overs. I make mostly everything from scratch so I normally have something I must prep/cut/combine/etc daily. The only thing I hate doing are the dishes lol needless to say, I do run the dishwasher regularly.
