As I was driving from Oregon to California yesterday, there was a three-hour stretch with temperatures above 100 degrees. There is no air-conditioning in my friend's car and even the air at 70 mph was super-hot. This was a stretch of I-5 with rest stops and gas stations that were few and far-between. My water was too hot to drink.
We finally got to a rest area, where I could change out of my black clothes, and crouched under a spigot until my hair and dress were soaked. I drank a good amount of water and filled up the water bottles. My heart rate was high and I was sweating a lot, but what got me pretty spooked was that I had cramping in my abdomen for the next half of an hour. I had had some cramping in the morning, but this was more persistent.
I know that I did what I could to help myself and the baby out, and that plenty of women from hot places have given birth for a long, long time, but I am still a little bit worried. This will be my first baby, but I had a chemical pregnancy when I was in my twenties. I had a few days' worth of varied symptoms, but they mellowed out. I went to the doctor's on Monday to confirm the pregnancy and they said I am 'very pregnant', so I don't have base symptoms to check my current condition against, other than the smell thing and some breast tenderness.
I haven't bled. I was light-headed but not really dizzy. I wish I weren't so nervous, but I am! I am at six weeks as of yesterday and like lots of other ladies here, I am almost hoping for more symptoms.
