too, too hot

As I was driving from Oregon to California yesterday, there was a three-hour stretch with temperatures above 100 degrees. There is no air-conditioning in my friend's car and even the air at 70 mph was super-hot. This was a stretch of I-5 with rest stops and gas stations that were few and far-between. My water was too hot to drink.
We finally got to a rest area, where I could change out of my black clothes, and crouched under a spigot until my hair and dress were soaked. I drank a good amount of water and filled up the water bottles. My heart rate was high and I was sweating a lot, but what got me pretty spooked was that I had cramping in my abdomen for the next half of an hour. I had had some cramping in the morning, but this was more persistent.
I know that I did what I could to help myself and the baby out, and that plenty of women from hot places have given birth for a long, long time, but I am still a little bit worried. This will be my first baby, but I had a chemical pregnancy when I was in my twenties. I had a few days' worth of varied symptoms, but they mellowed out. I went to the doctor's on Monday to confirm the pregnancy and they said I am 'very pregnant', so I don't have base symptoms to check my current condition against, other than the smell thing and some breast tenderness.
I haven't bled. I was light-headed but not really dizzy. I wish I weren't so nervous, but I am! I am at six weeks as of yesterday and like lots of other ladies here, I am almost hoping for more symptoms.

You were probably just dehydrated. Just try to keep drinking enough water. And I'm still having random bouts of cramping that women further along have assured me is just my uterus stretching and growing. Try not to worry!

I agree with Annie. I've had a lot of cramping on and off this time around

I live in that stretch of CA! It has been insanely hot here, and I'm also noticing more cramping in the afternoons after I have been out doing errands and such. I think some of it is growing uterus stuff, but sometimes I think it is actually dehydration. I really have to watch out for it, since I'm not great about remembering to drink enough water!

I was really, really worried because I stopped peeing as frequently; the cramps weren't like the other cramps I have been having; and I knew that the car was hotter than a sauna. It was 106° in Redding, not counting the radiant heat of the highway. I have lived in the desert before, where it gets up to 115°, but the air never felt as hot as that drive. My dad used to live in that area and I remember how hot it got during the summer. Turns out, I wasn't imagining it. Do take care of yourself, Lousli!
I think I am fine, although I managed to convince myself for a full ten minutes yesterday that I was bleeding. (I wasn't.) I just have to realize that being neurotic isn't going to be helpful. I need to relax and do the best that I can to create a healthy environment for this baby, and the rest is out of my hands.
Thanks for the reassurances, Shoefairy and Annie.

I live in Texas with so e serious heat rig now. Still taking the kids out and walking in the humidity every evening pushing a double stroller. It's a bummer but it sounds like you did all the right things to lower our body temp. And yeah I agree with the pp that said dehydration. If you weren't drinking your water because it was too hot. That can increase cramping and Braxton hicks later on so I'm sure it would now too.

Off to drink some water myself now that I think about it!
