Best Carrier for a Short Mum?

Hello everyone,
I have two different Snuglis that I have been given. The problem with both of them is that the shoulder straps do not adjust, so the baby ends up dangling mid-thigh. I am five feet tall, so shorter than your average bear. I also have a Maya Sling, but it is so hard on my shoulders. The rings dig into the one side, and the baby weight is concentrated on the other. Yesterday, I went to the store and tried on an Ergo, which was better than the Snugli, but still, the front extended in front of my thighs which I think would impede walking. I took a cursory glance at the Baby Bjorn, but it was over $100 and it only went to 26 pounds, whereas the Ergo went to 40. For that kind of money, I'd like it to last a while. I'd also like something where babe can be forward-facing or mum-facing.

Any suggestions?

I'm with you - have real trouble with our Kelty Kangaroo when baby is bigger, too. I'm not much taller than you, and really can't use it past 3 mos.
I do have a Maya Wrap, and really like it. I try to put baby in a cradle hold right in the centre, and I can get the rings more comfortable by having them below my shoulder bone. This allows me to spread the fabric really wide across my shoulder. It's really easy to loosen the sling, slip baby into a nursing position and readjust when done.
Once baby can sit up, I keep the rings in the same place, but put the baby on my hip, instead.
I find that both these positions help me to stay balanced.

I need to experiment more with the Maya Wrap, but yesterday I bought a used Eddie Bauer carrier (not even really used, still in the box actually), and so far so good.
