Good science videos for an almost-five year old?

My son has never watched TV, but he's turning five in a few weeks and he's REALLY into space lately -- particularly black holes -- so we're thinking he might be ready to watch a few educational things here and there.

Does anyone know of anything that would be appropriate for him?

TIA!

There are great shows about space and how the earth was formed on the Science Channel. And sometimes the sci-fi channel. I DVR them so I can fast forward the commercials.

Magic School. They have games and experiments too.

DD was media free until about 3.5 when we discovered PBS Kids Dragonfly TV. It's 9 minute podcasts about real kids doing science. They investigate specific things, interview scientists, etc. They were short and just perfect for her at that age and for our comfort level of moving into educational media.

Our family loves Carl Sagan's Cosmos. The programs are aimed at an adult, but they are so beautiful that our four year old is transfixed by them too.

My children all LOVED Bill Nye the Science Guy. They'd pick him over anything else, if given the choice.

The guy is completely frenetic and the show is very high-energy and choppy, so you should take that into consideration. But my kids learned a lot from it and enjoyed the learning. My sister's fiance met the man at a homeschool conference and says he was very positive about hs'ing, which is nice to know.
