UGH my husband. Is this milk still good?

I pumped 5oz this morning (woot!) and put it in the freezer in a lansinoh bag, bag laying flat so that it could freeze that way (then I was going to put it with the rest of the bags standing up).

Well... my wonderful husband came home and threw a warm bottle of gatorade on top of the bleepin' bag. The milk was slushy not completely frozen at that point. Is it okay to keep that milk? Is it bruised (I've heard that bm bruises but im not really sure what that means)? Did the warm bottle of gatorade ruin the milk at all? I'm just really angry at my husband's lack of consideration for what's in our freezer!

I think it should be ok. Don't be too hard on your hubby-- until you've had a machine suck on your nipples for 20 minutes you wouldn't understand. s.

I heard that vigorous shaking of breastmilk can break up the proteins, maybe that is the bruising you've heard of? It would still be safe to use regardless, just not as ideal. A warm bottle on top is fine considering breastmilk is ok at room temp for many hours and refrigerated longer and it should have been somewhere between those two. Now if he put a warm item on top of it everyday for a few days, then yeah, that might be a problem depending how many times.

And yeah, it's hard for DHs to get it since they don't understand how much effort, frustration, etc. goes into pumping.

It should be OK. I think as long as it does not completely thaw (to the point of being warm) and then re-freeze you should be good to go.

I had a similar situation when DD was little (husband moved bags to the door storage, not realizing) and a friend told me about this piece of baby gear. I normally think we can live without a lot of the stuff marketed as must-haves for babes, but this little contraption is actually pretty smart (and will keep things like this from happening in the future!):

I'm sure its fine. When I pumped for ds1 (ds2 never took a bottle...), I'd routinely have bm in the fridge for a day before sticking it in the fridge. And it never would have occured to me that milk could 'bruise'...

Thanks for the link I actually use 1800contacts boxes for this (same shape! just no lid) but when I first put the bag in the freezer I lay it flat to freeze it, then i move it. Saves space!
