MDC Running Club-WK of March 15th - Page 2

Wow, our club is growing fast! Welcome! It sounds like we've got an awsome mix of long-time experienced runners and those new to the sport. I'm so pleased this is working out. Let's hope that we're all still here a long time in the future.

I also have had some problems getting myself motivated.

I have organized my life so that my commute to work involves a 15 minute bike ride. I get 2.5 hours of exercise per week just from that. I this is what got me from +40 pounds over my prepreg weight to my current weight of ~ +5 pounds (I don't own a scale). Well, that and my DD who doesn't like to eat solids.

However, I can still deform my tummy to my 9 mo pregnant size. I discovered that while sitting in the tub a few months ago. That just had to be dealt with! I resumed running on weekends (as I'd done from May-November of last year), but hesitated going in the evenings because I worried about my daughter falling asleep in the jogging stroller, then being up until midnight. Well, I tried it and two things happened:

DD doesn't fall asleep, but gets a very mellow 40 minutes to watch all the doggies that are out.

DD has a much better evening because of her mellow time. She's happier, sits better for supper, and doesn't seem as frustrated with her toys in the hour between supper and bedtime.

An easier evening is just icing on top of the fact that as of today.....

I'm using a new hole in my belt! A hole that hasn't been used since 2001!

Woohoo!

That's great Wendy! I just just ordered a new swimsuit 3 sizes smaller than the one I used last summer - felt great! I worked out this am on the TM - dd is in daycare 2 mornings a week. I'm sure that once this miserable NE winter is over that she and I will be going together. She loves the jogging stroller (faster mommy!) We should get a t-shirt co-op together that says that- Faster Mommy! lol. Anyway it's so great to see everyone making an effort to move - we're all raising healthier kids because of it. Cheers,

Leah

Damn the snowflakes, full steam ahead!

I went out yesterday dispite the light snow. I'd had a 1 day break. I'm on week 5 of http://www.sanbernardinopacers.com/b...g%20runner.htm
(3X 8 min run, 2 min walk). Yesterday was hard at first, but I found that I recovered very quickly after the second set, and was getting antsy to go again after walking 1 minute, so I jogged. Because of a brain malfunction, I ended up jogging 9 minutes for the third set. It wasn't easy, but it wasn't a struggle, either.

This running program says to run 4 days a week. I started this week on Saturday, and I've now done this one 4 times.

Should I start of week 6 tonight? Or should I stick to week 5 until Saturday? Moving ahead means I will get in shape faster, but keeping myself back a bit should ensure that I don't overexert myself.

Any advice from the experienced runners here?

Geofizz, The experienced runner in me says take it slowly, don't injure yourself and don't burn out. I made it a "rule" for myself a long time ago that I would only run every other day. It allows for a day of rest and repair and keeps it from being drudgery.

I'm off to run with my 3 year old in the baby jogger -- in the rain -- through the hills. I sound like one of those old people "In my day, we walked to school in the snow up hill, both ways." :LOL

Have a good run whoever is running today!

Hello everyone!!!!

Welcome to the new runners!!!!

Well, I'm back, and I stayed true to my word, I ran Wednesday, Thursday and today. Monday and Tuesday were my rest days. I will run tomorrow am and Sunday am, and take Monday and Tues off again.
So on Wednesday, I ran 2.25 miles, uphill alot of the way, it was a new route and a tough one. I also did 90 situps and 15 pushups.
Thursday: I ran another 2.25 miles, same route as the day before. 90 situps, 15 pushups.
Today, I ran 2.5 miles, not so much uphill this time, though there was one long one I didn't think would end!!! I haven't done my situps yet or my pushups.
Tomorrow, I'll be running my route, which is about 3 miles...no hills!!!
As I said, this week I'm running for 7mins, walking for 1 three times.
WEdnesday, i had lots of energy, it was a really good run. Thursday was really hard for me, i"m not sure why. Today was great...
So hopefully my next two runs will be great!!!!
I didn't eat so great in Ottawa. But I'm home now, and back to my healthy eating!!!!:

don't know why people pay to have them enlarged. It is terrible annoying. Anyway, Ava was our last child so they aren't going to re-increasing and I don't have to worry about pregnancy interupting my good intentions. I truely am entering a new era in my life. It is exciting.
Wow,. My thoughts exactly. Everyone at work says, hey you're losing your boobs.: I'm glad, I don't like having big boobs at all!!!! And we are also done having kids. Kind of bittersweet actually. But now, it's time to get healthy, so I can be around to enjoy my grandkids, and maybe even Greatgrandkids!!!!
I was always athletic and active in hs, and even in University. I love rollerblading, and biking. I will be biking to work, starting mid-April...and still running.
I'm entering week 5, now, running 8mins, walking for 2 three times.
I ran this morning at 410am with my dog. I"m working days today.
It was great. Tomorrow is my last day for the week, I'll be taking Mond and Tues off.
Is anyone else doing strength training too?
My greatest motivation is that I realized I was on my way to waking up 240lbs cranky wife/mom. Not my future. No way, no how. It's not me. Since starting my new lifestyle, I feel powerful, healthy and happy. Greatest motivation ever!!!!!

eta: I've also lost 15 lbs since starting!!!!

Hi all,

Today I moved to the next week of the jogging plan, and I went 3X 9 jog, 1 walk. I changed my route. I ended up walking down a fairly steep hill, and the rest of the trip was a gradual incline. The power of having this "plan" is that I had to keep jogging to do it. I *knew* I could do it because it was just marginally longer than what I was doing before. Tomorrow I'm driving to the river to find FLAT.

Weekly totals (goal in parenthesis):

Total aerobic excersize: 351 minutes (360)
biking: 100 minutes
jogging: 100 minutes
walking: 151 minutes
Situps: 350 (350)
Pushups: 160 (150)

I did 10 extra pushups because my husband just bet me I couldn't do 10 "boy" pushups. I did them. Ouch. I don't plan to do that again, though.

It's sounds like you're doing so well! I am so looking forward to spring bike rides with my family. My dh really loves to bike and we have a trailer for dd so we do longs rides with picnics etc. It's my favorite way to spend a Saturday. I did my workout this am - week four of the 9 week coolrunning couch to 5k program. Jog 3 min, walk 90 secs, jog 5min walk 2.5 min, repeat. It's a big jump from last week and it totally kicked my a$$. I have weight trained in the past, but I can't seem to get enough time away from life to add it to my program right now. Starting next week dd will have a sitter 3 times a week, so maybe I'll be able to work it in. I loved the way it made me feel. That and yoga and pilates. I really need to make an hour a day committment to my body. Is that so much to ask???

I just found this thread/club and I'm so psyched. I love reading about what everyone is doing and it will help my own motivation.

I ran today for the first time in almost a week. I have had a nasty sore throat/achy/headache thing, but today I felt somewhat better and I decided to go for it.

Today I ran for the first time with my double jogging stroller. I love it! It's super lightweight and doesn't feel much heavier than the single stroller. Of course the two kids add to the weight, but it's really maneuverable. I did my usual course, which is about 4-1/2 miles. Tomorrow I may do a longer run. I have been trying to go for about an hour once a week or so. I also do spinning and other classes at the gym so I usually run only twice a week.

Happy trails!

Beth, Mom to Benji and Maggie
