Is "Chicken Soup For the Cat's Soul" a good brand?

My small local pet shop that sells high end cat food had this one for sale. I am on a VERY tight budget and trying to get off the cheap generic cat food (once upon a time I fed homemade only, but I have little time right now too). So, the Chicken Soup For the Cat's Soul brand was very affordable and the shop said it was a high quality food--not grain free, but good stuff.

The cat's liked it--any thoughts?

Its a pretty good food. Like you said, its not grain free, but as far as food goes I would consider it high quality. I'm very picky about what foods I recommend, and for a customer on a budget, Chicken Soup is really a nice food. I would consider feeding it to my own animals.

I'm also always reminded of my last roommates cats. They had been eating grocery brand food. About 3 bowfuls a day for all the cats. I suggested switching to a higher quality food- they ended up on one I would put in the same quality range as Chicken Soup. These cats were free fed but within a few weeks, they started eating less- they ended up eating less than one bowl a day for all her cats, where before they were eating 3 bowls a day. The new food did not any where near 3x as much as the grocery brand, and they were eating 3x less, so it was also cheaper even though it was more expensive per bag. Plus, healthier for the cats, and healthy cats means lower vet bills.

It works best for my cat, who has a very high metabolism. The higher end foods weren't giving us the results we needed for this particular kitty. I have been very happy with this food for years now. I wouldn't feed anything lesser, and was surprised when this worked so well with the skin, eyes, stools, etc.

Yup. They eat less when there are more nutrients in the food. And then they poop less, too. Win/win situation.
