DD (10 months) is sick, tired, and having a really hard time sleeping. DH finally got her settled by letting her suck a bottle of water, but she is hysterically upset unless she's on her back, holding the bottle on her chest, sucking it slowly.
We have one of those cornhusk type pillows that we prop her up with when she's sick. It's not fluffy AT ALL, more like a bag of rice.
Our safety concerns are two fold:
1 - is leaving her a bottle propped on her chest safe? She's 10 months old, it's not like she's a newborn who's too weak to turn her head, and I would guess the drainage from this cold would be sending more down her throat than the bottle. Plus, it's a newborn slo-flo nipple. Do you think she could possibly drown on that?
2 - I have no worries about the pillow while I am in bed next to her (crib is sidecarred); the pillow makes noise when she rolls over and I am confident she will not suffocate on it with me there. But I'm nervous about leaving her up there even with DH and I checking on her and the monitor turned all the way up. Could she suffocate?
What do you guys think?
ETA: She let DH switch out the bottle for a paci after while I typed this.
