40lbs of apples..what to do?

Hi all,
A local store is offering 40lbs of unwaxed Gala apples for $20, which is a very good deal. Other than eatting as is though, what else could I do with so many apples?

Are Galas good for making applesauce? Anything else I could do to preserve them other than dehydrating them? (I don't have a dehydrator and I don't want to turn on the oven in this heat...)

I think they'd make great applesauce because they're sweet. You can make a big batch of apple muffins to freeze for later, too.

You could also juice them for cider or hard cider.

I'd do apple sauce and apple butter, and my mom always used to freeze apple pie filling, she'd put the peeled sliced apples in a bag with the right amount of sugar, and pop it in the freezer. When she was ready to make pie she just pulled out a baggie from the freezer and thawed it a put it in a pie crust. Yum!

Unfortunately I don't have a juicer but how do you make cider from juice?

Well, of course you have to make apple pies and apple crisps, right? Can't get enough of those. You can also makes a bunch of apple bread loaves (so yummy!) and freeze them. First wrap them in foil. Then a freezerbag.

These are the same things I do. A lot of applesauce, a little apple butter, (can both) and some pre-spiced pie/crisp filling (freeze this).

I used to get a good deal on apples when we lived in the PNW and used to chop them up and make up pies but not cook them. I would then freeze in our deep freezer and thaw out during the yr as needed. I would also do what another poster suggested. I would cube up a fair amt and then freeze on parchment paper, transfer to gallon bags and use throughout the yr in muffins/breads/desserts as needed.

I use my crockpot to make applesauce, just throw the cored apples in, thickly sliced. I use my immersion blender when they are soft and blend it all up.

UPDATE:

So I got 40lbs today and spent the afternoon peeling, coring, slicing, mashing, boiling and got 18 jars worth of applesauce done. I only processed 10 lbs worth! OMG...I think I'm in over my head...

I don't have any freezer space left (darn those strawberries!), don't have a dehydrator, and its hot enough anyways that I don't want to turn on the oven. No juicer either... Yikes...

I'm also running out of the smaller jars and probably will need to get some more...

All that said, the kitchen smells wonderful!
