Best co-sleeping gear for newborns?

So I recently discovered that I'm pregnant with my third child. My youngest is almost 8 so it's been quite a long time since I had a baby to sleep with, and back then I just kept the mattress on the floor with my first two so I could keep them on the mattress with me without worrying about them falling off. I have a giant solid wood bed frame now that we'd have no place for if we got rid of it, so that's not really an option anymore, and I'm looking at different options. I see great reviews of the Arm's Reach bassinet, and the Snuggle Nest, but I'm not a fan of all the synthetic materials. I guess I could buy one pretty early and let it off-gas out of the box for a while in our spare room or something, but would rather avoid it altogether.

Does anyone have any suggestions for a more natural/ environmentally friendly co-sleeping thingy?

I've seen a wooden version of the arm's reach. Very pretty, just to much money for something that doesn't last very long. Could you side-car a wooden crib? That's what we did, and that way it was big enough for a long time. Of course, DD hardly ever slept in it, but it stopped her and me from falling off the bed as we all squeezed in
