Does This Sound Like an Allergy Rash?

I kind of posted a similar question in the main H&H board (didn't realize there was an allergy sub-forum) but I figured it might get more response here. My younger son (13 months) has developed a horrible come and go rash over the past month. It seems to just randomly come and go, nothing to do with the type of CD he has on or anything. We haven't changed laundry detergent or anything else. He also tends to get a small rash on his chin/neck/upper body when his butt rash flares up, though the butt rash takes the longest to clear up. The rash on his body is little bumps, the rash on his butt is bright red and rather painful looking, and it is like the second poop touches his skin he gets RED. I change him right away but it doesn't seem fast enough. Anyway... I don't know what to do...

It sounds possible.
You might want to start a food journal and see if you notice a pattern that correlates with the rash.

So just write down everything he eats for a couple weeks and how his skin looks?

That sounds almost exactly like my son and his is totally related to food sensativities!! I know exactly what you mean regarding the butt rash...it's like the stool burns the skin immediately. Definitely keep a food journal. Write down everything he eats, drinks, supplements, etc. And if you're nursing, write down everything you eat as well. Note any changes in his skin, behavior, BM's, etc. Hopefully you'll see a pattern emerge. Just a warning though, sometimes those types of reactions can be delayed 12-24 hours after consuming a trigger food. I hope you can figure it out quickly and your little one is rash free soon!!

I will start his food journal asap, I am not nursing anymore (supply dried up since I am pregnant and he was never a big nurser anyway) but is there anything I should cut out NOW that might be the biggest trigger just to try and clear it up?

The most common intolerances are dairy, gluten, soy, and corn, pretty much in that order, if you want to cut any of them out. Nightshades (tomato, white potato, pepper, eggplant) are also common offenders.

As of yesterday I cut tomato (I was apparently allergic as a child?) and berries and citrus since those are the fruits that he has started eating most recently and I have noticed his rash get worse in the past 1-2 months. So yeah... it is a start? I am going to call his Dr tomorrow to see if they can do the blood test for gluten allergy?
