Another "other", here!

Mine are still very young & we're very relaxed, so we may end up in the unschool group. But for now, our summer break is from Jan-April 15th. I do taxes for a local CPA & work full-time (if not more) during tax season.

DS & I do "school" during DD's naps & whenever he asks me a question!

we school 6 weeks on 1 week off year round this helps us stay foucused enough that we do not need to reteach things forgotton over long breaks plus I feel my kids really like and need short close together breaks than 1 really long break. We do go a little lighter in the summer but not to much.

"other" we unschool but DS is doing CTY since january 2010. The CTY program is online and he loves it so that is almost everyday for math. Everything else is 'unschool'. Personally I liked to hit school hard in the summer in the past because its so dang hot here but this year DS did a number of summer camps and tons of reading on his own. With DS getting older he is taking more of a lead and I just kinda follow along.

The only thing for sure is mom does nothing between Thanksgiving and New Years (except help with CTY if he wants or I can put that on 'hold' as well).

Unschooling works for us.

This week we are going on a field trip to the science center, last week it was the art museum and 3 weeks ago it was the new music museum. So lots of hands on learning.

Well, in the past, we've been relaxed eclectic unschooling types. I voted we unschool.

However.... My older two are choosing to try out a year at the local PS. So my littlest one and I are on our own homeschooling this year. He is about 3.5 and typically I would say not to overschedule at this age, but I think he needs it. We'll still be "unschoolers" but I am going to schedule us (me, really) to get us out and doing something every day pretty much. He is an ACTIVE guy and used to traipsing after his siblings. We'll be in each others hair if we are on our own too much. lol

We school year round, taking time off in the Fall and Spring, when the weather is so nice that we want to be outdoors more. Our official first day of school begins the third Monday of August (we just decided this last week ;P) We will go at it full bore until it cools off and then we will cut back so that we can spend more time going on outdoor fieldtrips. Then when it gets too cold, we will get back into full "school days". We take some time off around Christmas and the New Year, but we never really stop. Having some school work all year gives the kids some structure to their day. By the time spring comes around, we are ready to get out of the house, and thus do very little school work, then we get back into it as it becomes too hot to be outdoors!
