A little confused after wbv.

A kinda funny thing happened at my dd 2yr well child visit. The dr. was listening to her lungs, so I told her to breathe. She took a deep breath and exhaled. The dr. looked surprised and asked me to ask her to do it again, so I did and she breathed again. He continued to listen to her while I asked her to breath several more times.
He seemed impressed that she could do that and said that most 2yo can't.
I'm a little confused as to why he would think that. Can't most 2yo take a deep breath if you show them how?

My almost six year old cannot do it. He can't even seem to grasp the concept of blowing his nose.

That's interesting to hear. My two year old can do it too. I often tell her and demonstrate myself how to take a breath and relax, maybe it's the yoga she likes to mimic with us

At 2, my daughter could take a deep breath (lots of pretend doctor visits at home ), but she still has trouble with blowing her nose or blowing out a candle.

Interesting...I never asked him before, but Micah is 3 and can do it.

ETA: He loves blowing out candles, and has been able to blow his nose since about 18ish months.

I just demonstrated "deep breath" to DS (a little over 2 y/o), and he can do it. He can blow out candles, but doesn't really "get" blowing his nose (though he hasn't had a stuffy nose in quite a while so it's not like there's been opportunity for him to try).

My 2 year old can do it. I have used it for a long time, when he gets really angry, or when he's stuttering because he thinks faster than he speaks.

Wow I just asked my 17mo & he could do it -- I had no idea he knew how to! I will have to use that now with the rest of my calming tricks!!

ds can, he can also blow his nose and blow out a candle. but my friend's dd couldn't blow her nose until she was nearly 5, she just didn't get it. every kid is different. also many 2yrs are nervous at the dr, the cold stethscope etc and while they may be able to do it at home, at the dr office they may not be able to do it, thus limiting the dr's sample of 2yr old's
