How do you get your news? - Page 2

For the most part, I don't. If there's something going on that I want to know about, though, I'll seek out our local newspaper, and then get online to learn more. Usually my first exposure to some event that's happening in the world is through chit-chat with friends and neighbors. Then I can decide if I want to know more.

DH and I decided years ago that the constant bombardment of "bad news I can't do anything to fix" wasn't good for our mental health. Most of what's "on the news" isn't real news-- it's gossip, or sensationalist propaganda, or the sad chronicling of a sick society's ills. I already know the world is a messed up place-- being constantly confronted by it isn't necessary. It just makes me feel helpless, and hostile towards my fellow humans.

I don't feel out of touch at all, though. I'm very aware of the really important things happening in the world, and locally.
