detergents

I've found a few lists online talking about the different detergents and which ones are good/bad. But I was wanting some personal experience if possible. What detergent(s) do you ladies prefer? Are there any that I can just buy from a local grocery/walmart type store that is diaper friendly? I"m mostly going to be using prefolds with covers (thirsties/bummis) but have some FB and some rocky mountain one sizes.

I started out with Arm and Hammer Free and Clear Liquid. It seemed good at first, but I noticed my son was getting rashes. Then I peaked into the wash during a rinse cycle and saw a ton of bubbles. It ended up taking 3 wash cycles after to get them fully rinsed out. I tried adjusting the amounts, but if I went with too little they stunk.

We went with Crunchy Clean after that and it worked great for about a month and a half or so. He reacted to the non EO (essential oil) scents, but was fine with EO. However, our diapers started smelling like poop unless we used 1.5 scoops. Even then we had to use White Vinegar during the first rinse cycle to avoid stink.

We now use Rockin Green Hard Rock and I LOVE it! I only use 1 scoop and I have no smell in them. I still do extra rinse, but that's just to be careful. Rockin Green Rocks!!!

I use Tide Free & Clear. It works great and comes in a HE version for if you have a front loader.

I will be making my own, but you can get RNG from www.rgnaturalbabies.com she's local to me and a super sweet mama.

We use Charlie's Soap: http://www.charliesoap.com/ and have a mix of pre-folds with bummis wraps and fuzzi bunz. I've never had any issues with staining or repelling.

I use Country Save. You can get it at Whole Foods but I think it's cheaper online. I ordered a case of 4 boxes from Amazon.com.

Costco also carries a detergent called "ECOS". I wanted to try it because it's a lot cheaper ($11 for 100 loads, vs $16 for 80 loads with the Country Save and it works great! When the Country Save runs out I think I'll switch to ECOS full time, since I can get it locally.

After trying pretty much everything out there I have fell in love with Charlies Soap. I order it online but if you order 2 bags or more it is free shipping and it is delivered fast.

I have been using it since the end of 08 or early 09 I think and have never had to strip my dipes since starting it. Before starting it I would have to strip every few months.

I didn't want something I had to order online but it really isn't a big deal at all. The horror stories scared me as well so I would check the kids bums like every 15 min for the first couple days but we have had no issues. My DD2 has very sensitive skin and it has really helped it.

I use Purex Free and Clear. Super inexpensive and works great!

Also add borax to the wash on occasion, and it is also very inexpensive.

I alternate a regular Free & Clear (All, Purex, Tide, whatever) liquid with the bumGenius branded Country Save powder. No issues.

We use Original Tide. I've tried a bunch in the past, and this is the only thing that hasn't given us any problems.

I use Tide as well, usually regular, sometimes free and clear. But usually the regular, it is cheapest and it works.

we were using charlie's soap... hated it. we are switching to rockin green soon, but we have yet to know how we'll like it.

We've only been using it for 3 weeks now, but I'm liking Rockin' Green as well. And it really is super cheap & easy to get it online. I was hesitant to order detergent online at first also, even though I shop online all the time. But I have no problem with this stuff- it's inexpensive, smells good, and so far is doing a great job.

I used purex free and clear for the longest time because it was easiest for me to get. I've also used country save and LOVED it. Currently I'm using all free and clear and am not so enthused with it.

I plan on making my own once it is gone.
