sleepy but awake?? what does it look like in your baby?

NCSS says put baby down in crib sleepy but awake. Tonight I think I got my best sleepy but awake situation. Actually he had just started to drift off to sleep - had his eyes closed for about a minute. He jostled a bit once I put him in the crib. So is that sleepy but awake? Or is baby's eyes supposed to still be open... or what else can it look like?

That's one of the reasons I could never get the NCSS tips to work here - my guy is EITHER awake or asleep. There is no sleepy-but-awake except in the car. Or if there is, it only lasts about 2 minutes, and it's too delicate a sleepiness to tolerate a transfer. So I've got no idea!
