Will a future VBA2C be possible??

Thread Starter
I am not pregnant (yet), but plan on it within the next 5-6 years. My first pregnancy was 4.5 years ago,and concluded with my son's birth being via a c-section. During my labor, I was diagnosed with "placenta abruptio", as when my water bag broke, I began bleeding, however at some point the bleeding stopped, and I had an emergency c-section due to FOP after 18 hours of labor.

After my birth, I read my labor and delivery report, and nothing on my chart was indicated that I had "placenta abruptio" (yet, when I got to the hospital I was accused of being a drug addict by a doctor, since apparently and abruption happens only if there is drug use). Nothing was ever said after the birth about the abruption, and the doctor stated my placenta was "normal", after I asked him. (could it be that its because I'm a red head...)

With my second pregnancy, my Ob/GYN stated she felt it was best for me to have a c-section due to the fact that "my hips were too small"...she didn't say anything about the abruption from the previous birth, and I went ahead with a scheduled c-section, no questions asked.
At this point in my life, I am considering a vbac, or a hbac, but wanted to find out if anyone was in my previous situation, and if it was possible for them..as i have had 2 c-sections and my first labor having an "abruption". I am just getting a feel for if this is a possible scenario, and if any midwifes are reading this, what is your opinion? Thanks!

So far you haven't said anything to make me think (as a mw) that you 'need' to have another csec. You have said some things however, that make me think you definitely 'need' better care next time!

good luck. You may have to fight for a VBAC after 2 csecs--and search hard for a provider who will take you as a client--but it's well worth the fight and search! Consider a homebirth....less struggle to find a mw who will help you (most likely, anyway) and less arguing over birthing normally.

VBA2C is possible! I am currently pregnant with #3, and I have been looking everywhere to have a VBA2C!!! I finally found a birthing center within an hour or so drive that will agree to let me. (thanks to another mom on here who gave me the info to find this center). It is very difficult to find a provider who will let you try, none of the hospitals in my area allowed it, and I couldn't find a birthing center either. But luckily there was ONE place that is willing to let me. Before I found them, I was considering my other options; like unassisted homebirth. Hope you are able to find some where that will let you try!

im planning a vba2c at my local hospital there was only one OB that would take me!

I am having a HBAC in September and have had one vaginal med-free birth and one emergency c-section due to placenta abruption following a fall; I had quite a bit of trouble finding a practitioner who would take me on, but it had little to due with the reason for my c/s and instead was because OBs in my area and the policies of the hosptials they have privileges at, are not supportive of VBACs-that being said I was able to find a CNM that I adore. I don't personally think that your siuation would preclude you from VBAC and I wish you the best of luck should you become pregnant!

Wondering if you could share the name of the Hospital, as I am also in washington state and looking to plan a VBA2C.

First C-section, my son was breech.

second, was a "repeat" with no other given options.

I really intend to take my power back next time.

Many thanks,

I don't know where in WA you are, but if you are near or able to travel to Eastern WA, Dr's Fine and Brasch at Holy Family (North Spokane) are WONDERFUL!

I can't say enough. I found them via ICAN, and they are the ONLY VBAC/VBA2C supportive OB's around. As far as I know, women travel from Wenatchee and sometimes even the Seattle area to have a hospital VBAC with them. They are on site, (their office is in the hospital) so it's all very convenient.

I traveled (found their practice @ 29 weeks) over an hour, from another state to have prenatal care and a VBA2C at Holy Family last June with Dr Fine, and Dr Brasch took care of me during my PP stay..they were both great, and I'm SO thankful for them "not playing by the rules" and allowing women to birth. I've heard great stories on ICAN of women birthing squatting, and all kinds of "natural" stuff usually not allowed in hospitals. I drank my RRL tea all through labor, etc.

You labor, deliver and recover all in the same room. They have 24 hr healthy room service, and your baby NEVER leaves your room for ANYTHING. They did all the newborn stuff I had consented to (very little) on my chest. I helped with the first bath, and I didn't get heat for our no-vax stance.

Anyway, it was a very difficult decision to choose a birth at the hospital with those OB's again, or a homebirth...I did ultimately choose homebirth this time, but NOT because the OB care wasn't superb.

Blessings, and You CAN do it!
