Driving and pumping

I often drive and pump I use my hands free bra, get all set up before I drive, and I'm good to go

I know I can't be the only one who does this. Come on mamas, show yourselves!

I've got a 45 minute commute when I go back to work... so I've been wondering about this...

No spillage? Do you use a nursing cover or just under your shirt? Anyone know if it's legal???

HERE I AM!

Not everyday- just on road trips. But I have the adapter for my PIS, and if DD's asleep, I'd much rather pump than stop, wake her up, nurse, and get back on the road. Gotta take advantage of long naps!

Nope, I've never had any spillage. I use 8 oz plastic bottles and I transfer to glass when I'm done.

I don't cover up either. I just pull my shirt down over the pump parts if I can (most of the time) if the shirt style allows for that. I haven't seen anyone noticing or looking at me. Even if they did, so what Babycakes needs his milk that's what's important to me. I think the more people see breastfeeding/pumping the more normalized it becomes

I've never pumped while driving, but I did one time while DH was driving. Decided that pumping in front of someone else (even DH) was much too weird for me, so that's been my only experience. I have a question though, how does it work with the seatbelt? Doesn't the shoulder belt get in the way if you're double pumping?

i was just talking about this but.. what about driving a little car and passing big trucks? How do you keep an eye on things without flashing the truckers?

I've done it, but my main concern is I think i'd be badly injured by the airbags if I were in an accident? At the very least, the paramedics would have some story to tell though, lol.

I use to pump while driving If I was out of my office and didn't have space/time where I was, I would just pump in between point A and point B!

I've done it a few times when I really really needed to pump for relief. I don't think it's a big deal at all, and I wasn't so sophisticated at it that I was all covered up or anything. Pretty much pumps and flanges were all visible to anyone in a higher off the ground vehicle, but I just don't think anyone noticed or cared. And if they did, how long would they really be driving next to you in one trip anyway?

Seatbelt was a little bit of a pain but you work around it.

My main reason for not doing it more often is it is a distraction for me, because I usually check the "fit" often during pumping sessions and also the output and I am wary of looking down a whole lot while driving.

But it sounds like others have found ways not to have to check it so much...?

I think it's an awesome idea and I say do it!!! If your worried about exposing, just wear a hooter hider

Guilty as charged!

There is no way that I would have been able to keep pumping for 3 years for my dd if I had not been able to pump every day during my 45 minute (one way) commute. When my job finishes at 11:30pm, and I have to be back at 8:00 am, do I want to stay still (either in my office or stationary car) pumping, or do I want to get home to see my family?

Hands free pump kit was useless to me. Instead, I took a sports bra, cut a hole in each cup, and stretched the hole to insert the horns. Much more effective handsfree pumping.

I thought about doing this! I have a hands free pumping bustier.
I may try it out in the car, but for now we have a great freezer stash, so I'll hold off.

Me too. I just put the breast pump in my bra and it stays in place after the sshirt is pulled over it

Add me in. Nothing like business trips. Pumping on the road, pumping in the bathroom of convention halls that are packed with women waiting in line. Good times.

I pump while driving too- necessary. I have a bandaue (sp?) bra that I made holes in. I put the flanges through and then attach the other pieces. I use a hootie hider and off I go. Once connected it isn't much of a distraction. No spillage- pretty suctioned on there. I lean forward and shake when I take them off.

hey-- you guys motivated me.. i've done it on my way to work the past 2 days to rebuild my absent freezer stash. it's working well, i just have a huge tiedye hippie scarf that i drape over everything and do the rubber band trick. whoo-hoo!

To be honest, the truckers don't seem to notice or care. All of the other cars/SUVs don't notice because they are all talking on their cell phones.

Haven't nursed for a few years, but I used to drive and pump while sitting in traffic on the Blue Route in Philadelphia.

I also pumped while sitting in between two young businessmen on a plane. They had no clue what I was doing and one asked if I was on dialysis when I was finished. LOL. I gave them my whole spiel. Neither was married and both seemed impressed and interested in learning about it. My hubby says that I probably set them up well for when they get married!
