The weather was beautiful today, though a bit windy, and DD and I went to the a local park that has a beach and a playground. We brought a basket and collected clamshells - there are so many this time of year, and they're all whole - not like in the summer when most are broken. We had the best time just collecting and watching the seagulls drop clams on the rocks until they broke. DD got so excited watching one bird trying to steal another one's clam - she was loudly rooting for the rightful owner.
Days like this, when we do something simple and spontaneous and fun, especially something outdoors, feel better than anything else. Better than taking a fancy vacation, better than throwing an elaborate birthday party, better than a huge planned trip to the aquarium or whatever. The two of us (or three if it's a weekend and dh is home) just feel so good at the end of the day.
Do you find this to be true as well? What kinds of things like this do you do with your kids?
