starting GFCF - cross contamination worries

DS was diagnosed with Aperger's a few months ago. I'm ready (mentally) to start the GFCF diet. I feel pretty confident in what I can an can't feed him, but the cross-contamination issue has me totally overwhelmed.

I won't be able to convince DH to go GF. I might be able to just wean the family away from gluten by making breads and only stocking the house in gff foods, but I don't know... I have a feeling DH wouldn't be happy with GF bread.

So how do you all handle cross contamination, especially when one spouse is not convinced that you have to keep ever speck of gluten out of DS's food...even use sperate pans and toasters? Ugh

Toaster yes. For everything else no. I was told that if you properly clean things you really don't need to go all crazy about CC.

FWIW, we have a long list of allergies and just went to a Celiacs nutritionist. She said that the level of things we had been doing for the allergies was good enough for GF too. We have a "mixed" house here but don't allow nuts/peanuts or shell fish in the door.

My daughter is very reactive to xcon. If the pans are cast iron or teflon they can have particles of gluten--anything nonstick, really. Toasters, jars of pb, cutting boards, ect.

The G-Free Diet has a good list in it.

The G-Free Diet has a good list in it.

ds1 is non-Celiac gluten intolerant (we think.. haven't tested for CD). reacts to non-stick, cast iron, plastic and wood (bowls, spoons, cutting board, rolling pin) that's been previously used with gluten containing items. Even 3 months after going gf, he was reacting to these things.
you can get toaster bag things to put your gf toast in to keep it safe from cc. we have a gf toaster, so i don't know much more than that about them.
we also have separate containers of margarine, jams, nut butters etc (we just use a clean utensil to scoop some into a separate container from the original and use the separate container for gluten and original for gf).
we now use ss pans and utensils, have 2 toasters, bought new wooden things and new storage containers. dh doesn't cook but things get very clearly labelled in case he should get lost or something and accidentally find himself in the kitchen.
