After almost 5 continuous years of breastfeeding, I am having to wean my 2 year old daughter. (She tandemmed with her older brother for a while)
It has been gradual, I have been nursing exclusively on one side for months because of eczema which has caused deep cracking encircling my right nipple. I would wait to let it heal and each time I tried that side it would only crack worse. Over time I have noticed the left side becoming more and more sore as a small patch of eczema began to form. Last night I could only nurse for 20 seconds before I got sudden seering pain and when I took a look at it, I saw the same problem I had experienced on the right now beginning on the left.
I never thought I would be enforcing weaning when my daughter still wanted it, but I just couldn't take the pain any more.
