Horrible night...not sure what to think. Help!

My 3 mo DS has been a great nurser...no issues whatsoever since birth. Last night he woke up at his regular feeding times, but SCREAMED when I tried to put him to the breast. He didn't even latch at all, I just got him into position and he started screaming. I walked him around the house, cooled him down, etc., and then he nursed and went to sleep. 3 hours later, same deal. All day today he has been fine, nursing like usual...

The only thing I can think of is that maybe he had a stuffy nose and couldn't breathe? Anyone else have a suggestion?

my little ones tend to have issues with gas, so that is my guess...

I'm figuring if it was an ear infection he wouldn't have nursed contentedly all day today. I was going to try a different position tonight, hopefully to avoid the screaming.

The only other thing that is different is that he had the DTaP vaccine on wednesday...but every other night he was fine, so why would he start acting bizarre 5 nights later?

If your gut says it isn't a ear infection you are probably right but wanted to share my experience.

When my DD1 would have ear infections she was fine during the day and would only show symptoms at night. She also would never have a fever. Depending on how tonight goes and how you are feeling about it in the morning it may be worth getting checked out.

Good luck, bad nights are so draining.

Thanks, Katie! I'm going to call the Ped tomorrow if it happens again tonight, but being that he just had a well baby visit wednesday and got all checked out I would be surprised if he got an ear infection between now and then. I hope we have a better night tonight!
