When is an avocado really bad????

I just made an avocado creme and was really annoyed cause it was an expensive organic one but had these brown spots inside. I cut those off and used it anyways but I am wondering if that was mold. The whole avocado tastes a tiny bit moldy - just an after taste that sticks with you. Should you through out the whole avocado when it has these brown color inside? Thanks for any insight!!

My rule of thumb is one or two small brown spots are okay, but when you end up throwing out more than that--it's a bad avocado. Sometimes the browning is due to being kept too cold but other times it is a precursor to mold. Either way the browning does affect taste. Definitely complain at your supermarket if you keep getting brown ones. It helps if you buy your avocadoes harder and wait for them to ripen at home.

Thanks so much. I really should complain. Oddly it happens a lot when I buy organic. The conventional grown ones are always better...
