Natural Remedies for Morning Sickness

Hello All

I am sure this question is asked a lot so please point me in the direction of an old post if available...What are your natural remedies for morning sickness.

I am not PG yet but TTC #2 and had extreme (all day) morning sickness with dd for the first trimester. I suffered through it the first time and did not take anything although my doctor kept prescribing stuff for it. I can only hope it won't be as bad the second time around but, want to prepare myself just in case.

Thanks

Megan

let me know when you find one! haha

actually, the only thing i have found to help a LITTLE is the sea-bands, making sure i nibble on something every couple hours, and eating beans. still doesnt make it go away but makes it seem slightly better.

good luck with ttc!!

I have no room to speak, I was on zofran for 26 weeks for my first, and again it was worse with #2 and I am on zofran again.

But, I started taking probiotics when I was 12 weeks and noticed an improvement within an hour. Still was on zofran and still had it bad though. Then my chiro suggested and my midwife agreed to up the dosage from the recommendation on the package to twice a day. Within 48 hours I was able to lower my dosage of zofran. I am taking Natures Way Optima

It could all be coincidence, but it wouldn't hurt to try.

Mine was pretty moderate but I was able to keep it mostly away by staying VERY hydrated. Most of the time I was so hydrated my urine was absolutely clear.

Good luck and I hope you find something that works!

Vit B6, fennel, and hops. I have to use the expensive food-based B6 or it doesn't work. To keep me going til the vitamins kicked it, my mw made me a drink with fennel and hops tinctures. I've found that part of a beer works too.

marijuana~ 100% natural and all you need is one puff to make you feel better for hours, it even makes you want to eat. What more could you ask for?
Here's a link to a great article from mothering.com about a mama who suffered for many pregnancies before she found her "miracle" cure.

I am sure it's okay and safe for babies - and I know there is a lot of people who believe that pot doesn't lead to harder drugs or is not addictive, but for some people it is (me) so just remember that before recommending. You can get addicted to prescription drugs and illegal drugs and alcohol just the same. I know a lot of people who do it their whole life without issue, but it's not something I would feel comfortable recommending to someone without knowing mental history or how easily they get addicted to something. But then I can't take anything like codeine without going through the whole bottle in a few days. I just feel uncomfortable seeing it mentioned as a morning sickness cure if people haven't experienced it on a daily or long term basis.

Candied/crystallized ginger from the health food store

I bought a bag of it for maybe $5 in the beginning of my pregnancy and I still have some left. Whenever I feel queasy I pinch off a little piece (because I can't usually stand to eat an entire piece) and it does help.

Mint tea

Real ginger soda (i.e. not the Gingerale you buy in the soda aisle of the grocery store, but the bottled kind at the health food store)

Vitamin B-6

Acupressure - if you have a reputable chiropractor s/he may be able to show you some pressure points to use if you feel queasy. My chiro marked on me with a red pen so I wouldn't forget the points. I took a picture of the marks before I washed them off so I could make sure I was doing it right later.

Pretty knowledgeable on the subject...no where ever has there been any scientific documentation that this herb is addictive.
I think that when a person asks for ideas on this message board they are able to decipher what ideas work for them and leave the rest alone. I am not a doctor or a midwife so my "recommendation" is by no means official in any way. I find it very interesting that this herb has so many stigmas attached to it. It is time for people to get some real information about this medicine.

Liquid B Complex. It was easy to take (hold under your tongue and then swallow) and I could do it with a swig of OJ or something. It really helped me.

10-4 on that!

I also liked straight up ginger that I just cut into small pieces and poured hot water over it to seep as tea. Fantastic! Also drank a ton of kombucha that we make.

Thank you for all the ideas. Hoping I won't have to try any of them because I will just feel amazing and not be sick However, I am pretty sure I will be trying all of them to see what works.

Keep any ideas coming...I am open to trying all of them

If you're getting Ginger Ale find a place that sells the natural/organic kind. The mainstream kind doesn't say "ginger" in the ingredients...it's basically ginger flavored sprite as far as I'm concerned.

I didn't see this before I posted - I have to second Lemon Water, or water with any kind of citrus added in. I like water with a splash of lemon juice, lime juice, or grapefruit juice. It aids digestion which is important if you're throwing up a lot; it could help your body absorb more nutrients before they come back up. I had to have ICE COLD water in my first trimester and still now, but water that is closer to room temperature also helps to aid digestion.

Not really a subject up for debate because I don't believe it's a debate. My father had a medical background and believed it should be legalized, he also recommended it to his patients, I grew up believing it was okay, normal, and nothing wrong with it, and I still do. I believe there are medical aspects that are helpful. I am just saying that in my experience, maybe I have something physically or mentally a problem with me, it's an issue of needing escape, which maybe is the addiction itself (like food or shopping for other people, those things themselves not an issue, but for some people, they are)

If I knew the OP personally, I would probably mention it. I don't think it's a stigma at all, just my personal experience. My father took some precautions when mentioning it as an option to his patients. I think if he took precautions and was careful about how and when it is okay to mention to someone (not because of the legal issues, this was before legalization) then there must be something he was concerned about.
