How to deep clean a curly sheepskin with embedded... stuff?

Sorry - I don't mean to be mysterious. It's got all these little embedded fuzzies in the curly locks, as if it had been washed in a machine with another fabric that shredded.

My friend is giving up on cleaning this once really lovely curly-type sheepskin because she's too frustrated and pregnant to bother any more. She has tried hand washing, vacuuming, picking, combing, and maybe even dry cleaning. I have permission to toss it if I can't find a way to clean it, or a new use.

The only thought I have so far is to vacuum it at a carwash since those things seem so powerful. But I have doubts that even they could help.

Any skilled sheepskin folks out there?

Not to hijack, but just general "how do you clean sheepskin" info would be great! Mine needs to be washed since it's looking a little dingy and smelling a little stinky. I'm not sure I want to dry clean it.

OP, can you comb the lint out? I've done that for goopy goldfish cracker bits that got stuck in the wool. That and a light sponge was all it took.

Oops, I see that did not work. Maybe combing with a flea comb?

If it's at the point of binning it if you can't clean it I would be willing to take risks.

My instinct is to get some wool wash and stick it in the bathtub to soak (making sure the water is not too hot)

Aha, found some instructions here

I use sheepskin saddle pads. I have always used a product called Leather Therapy Laundry Solution. It is designed to wash things like sheepskin saddle pads or other sheepskin products as well as leather riding pants. I first used it on the recommendation of a sheepskin saddle pad manufacturer. You can imagine how gross a sheepskin saddle pad will look after a use or two on the back of a sweaty horse. I use this product in my front load washing machine with cold water. Then I hang it dry and then brush with my hands to loosen up the fleece.

Great ideas - I think I even have some of that leather stuff...
Was also thinking of trying a car wash strength vacuum.

The hair itself is nice and fluffy and clean, so it's all about lifting up these little bits of...? kleenex?

It's a reminder to always google and check mdc before washing unusual things with your old jeans (especially if you haven't checked the pockets.)

Just wanted to report back that the Leather Therapy stuff was miraculous. I did one wash on cold, 2 air fluffs for about an hour each, then air drying in the house. 95% perfect again!

Thanks!
