Does anyone diaper exclusively (or almost) with Flip??

I didn't buy into Flip for quite a while - I figured it was an expensive pf+cover system (and it is LOL). But when my BG elastics bit the dust I decided to finally try them - DS does best in suedecloth. And Lo! I love it!

My circa 2006 FBs are now losing their elastic too, and while I will eventually get around to replacing the elastics, I'm mulling over whether to get at least a daypack of the Flips.

Am I going to wish that I had stuck with a more eclectic stash, or do those of you who use Flip a lot find that you're pleased with the system?

We used to, my son also only does good with stay dry lining. He gets fussy otherwise. My son is 1 year and really really wiggly so I switched to pockets. They work really really well. We only had a leak once during the day but that's because he was wiggling so much during the change that the insert moved out of place and I didn't notice.

I wouldn't recommend them for night though if your child sleeps on his side. We had to get a fitted with stay dry lining for nights.

We use only Flip, but it's all I've ever used, so I have nothing to compare it to. DS is 15mos & I just started when he was ~13mos.

I like it. I bought a day pack of the organic prefolds (6 +2 covers) & then got 2 more covers & 4 stay-dry inserts. I thought I'd like the prefolds better, but I think I prefer the stay-dry ones. They're so much less bulky & seem to stay in place better. I do use them at night - I put in 2 stay-drys back to back. It's only leaked once at night & never during the day. I do need to get more, what we have makes me do laundry everyday.

So, I can't tell you if it's better to have a mix, since I've only ever used the one kind - but I can tell you I like what I have & do plan to buy more Flips & continue to use them.

It's good hear they still work in toddlerhood!

Blueone - out of curiosity, what stay-dry fitted do you use?

Perdita, I think she's talking about the stay dry inserts which are microfiber lined w/ microsuede or something on the back. thats one of the options you have for the Flip system besides the pf's.

I tried the flip and I dont like it. The microfiber is nice and trim, but if my dd poops in it, its all over the inside of the cover, and I def. cannot just wipe it out and reuse the cover.

I did buy just a cover to use w/ a fitted diaper though.

I use Piddle Poodle Cadillac Diapers. They are a bit pricey so I only own 4 and won't buy more. I got them 1/2 off during a sale too. I lay a stay dry sock from Cotton Babies over it just in case because it felt just a little damp. The shell though is entirely covered with Fleece!

They work great, but I be sure to put a wool cover over it because it has wicked on occasion.

We've used only Flips so far on our 4-month-old. DS is very stinky after a night in them, but we haven't had any leaks with pee. As another poster mentioned, poop gets all over the cover and definitely does not stay on the insert. This hasn't posed much of a problem, since I always know when she's pooping and either open the diaper up at the start or change her right away. We have 5 covers and about 30 stay-dry inserts. It's plenty of inserts for doing wash every 2 or probably even 3 days (some of our inserts live at my mom's house...I'm sure 24 would be plenty). I would recommend at least 6 covers. We usually put her in a fresh cover in the a.m. and a new one after she poops each day at a minimum. I also generally have two covers going at a time. Every change I wipe one well with a baby wipe then leave it to dry and switch to the other.

I'm impressed with them so far. I have invested in several more inserts and another cover. I have quite a lot of pockets too - if I was building a stash I might go almost completely with Flip. The poo definitely gets on the cover, but that's fine - he doesn't poop more than once a day now usually so I just throw that cover in the wash.

I haven't tried them at night yet, but I think I will tonight!

Did you try it? What did you do & did it work?
We tried 2 stay-dry liners placed back to back - it worked for awhile until DS kept waking complaining about his diaper. I think the wetness bothered him. I'd like to go back (in sposies at night now) so I'm interested to see how others do it.

No, I didn't - DS was a bit rashy yesterday afternoon and I didn't want to push it. I'll try it tonight!

Well, I tried it, with mixed results.

On the plus side, no leaks, and DS had nice smooth, non-rashy skin when he woke up.

On the down side, I think it was too bulky for him - he's only 5+months, and two liners was too much I think. He rolled around a lot last night, and woke up early. I don't think it was because he felt wet (he's in some kind of CD about half the nights) - I think it was because he wasn't completely comfy. I'm going to try again with a MF and a hemp booster to see if that's more comfortable for him.
