My toddler looks like a scrapper - tell me I'm not alone.

My DD is almost 17mo, and she constantly looks like she's been in a fight.

Just looking at her today, she has two skinned knees, a scrape on her shin, a big bruise on her cheek, both big toes have big knicks on them and one of the toe nails is broken, a scrape on her forehead, and a couple injured spots on two fingers.

She's so dang ADVENTUROUS. I know where a lot of them came from (playing outside barefoot, falling on sidewalk, falling into a shelf at Target, etc.) but geez! The kid is like one big scab.

Tell me I'm not alone.

You're not alone.

My pediatrician would beam at you and tell you that it's wonderful that your kid is so active.

Yes, we are also in that situation. She always seem to have a bruise somewhere on her face, in addition to whatever other bumps and bruises. Every picture of her will have some blemish on her face. Sigh.

We always joke that there's this six to twelve month window when you can't take any pictures because the kid looks like they've been in a bar fight.

All three of mine look like that. One is brutal to his face. One week he fell down the stairs- bruises and rugburn on the face, the fell on the teeter-totter- split lip, then fell off his chair- cut on his nose and bruise on other side of his head, then teeter-totter again for another slice on the cheek, black eye, and fat lip.

One week!

DS had a spectacular shiner for his first birthday party (those are some beautiful pics ), and is now, at two, just kind of covered with an assortment of small bruises and scrapes. Also, mosquito bites that he just won't leave alone. Oh, and a bruised lip (did you know you could bruise a lip?) from where he dropped a toy bus on his face while lying on the floor.

But I, myself, was generally covered in small owies from toddlerhood until adolescence (and beyond, during soccer season), so I guess he comes by it honestly.

Yup, right there with you DS1 has gotten very good at catching himself over the years so hes' not qutie that bad anymore, but a year or two ago he definetly was! And DS2 is just entering the "if we make it through a day w/o him hurting himself on something, its a minor miracle" stage (thats what I always tell people when they look at him and go "OH! Where'd *that* bruise/scrape/cut/whatever come from!?!?")

My husband just said to me the other day that he never knew toddlers get so many bruises! My son's legs are CONSTANTLY bruised from climbing, jumping, falling and just exploring in general. You're certainly not alone!

My daughter's legs are just like this. Sometimes, I can barely stand to see her in shorts - those adorable little legs all banged up. I was glad to see this thread - I was beginning to think it was just my kid!

DS is constantly scraping his knees and it's rare to see him without a scrape or something on his face. There was one week in May when he did two face plants to the same spot on his forehead in less than one week.... he still has a little bit of a bump/scar from that. Earlier this week, we had the pull out sofa bed out and he was climbing on me... before I could do anything about it, he slid of the side and scraped his face on the metal side railing and then hit the floor. Got a bloody nose, bruised his nose and has a minor scrape over his eye and just under his chin. My brother was the same way... always tripping and bumping his face... there are three different places he had to get stitches on his face... and once had to get staples in his knee because we were little and had the brilliant idea of using a bicycle pump as home plate when we were playing baseball in the backyard one day.... some kids are just more prone to looking like scrappers, I think.
