My baby boy is going to be a year on Sunday.

I need some small toys to make for him. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

Playsilks! I just made my son a set for his first birthday and he loves them. They are so versatile too.

Here's the problem... he's our 3rd child so we have Ninety bazillion playsilks already.

I made my ds1 a fabric book with different patterned or textured fabric on each page. Then I used t-shirt transfer paper and printed off pictures of me, dh, ds, his favorite toy, and his favorite pet and put them on the smooth pages. I just used cotton batting inside each page but you could do some with crinkle pages too. He loved it when he was little and still likes that he has it.

cloth balls (a set, in a bin), colors or ABC book, stuffies (turtle, dog, elephant, rocket ship, whatever), you can recycle his cute baby play clothes to soft blocks for stacking and throwing...
stacking rings, maybe felt foods (im waiting until nearly 2 to intro these)....
I Spy quilt, another beautiful blanket, special jammies, silly hats, a big fabric bucket or bin, stacking/ nesting boxes, a boy dolly, balloon cover/ball....
i love making toys for little kids
for something to make without sewing, you could woodburn blocks to make a personalized ABC set.
I made a felt Happy Birthday banner for my one year olds party, although I am sure we will use it for everyone's birthday now. And I used a white shirt and appliqued a big 1. I wish I had made a pocket for his 1 shirt; I will for his 2. I had to tie dye the shirt later because he stained it with cake icing! He loves his 1 shirt, but it is getting too small
Happy Birthday to your baby!

I cut out twenty 5 1/2" black fleece squares, and then stitched 4" pieces of different colored and textured fabrics to them. I did 2 each of red, orange, yellow, green, blue, purple, white, black, brown, and pink. Each fabric has a very different texture (the remnant bin at Jo-Ann's is great for this). Things like broadcloth, seersucker, velvet, fake fur, satin, sequined stuff. Young babes love just feeling the textures. Slightly older toddlers can play color matching games. Even slightly older preschoolers can play "memory" with it, since the back side of each is plain black fleece and they all look the same face down. This is the simplest toy ever to make, but both my kids and all their friends have a lot of fun with it. I've made it as a baby gift for a few people.

I recently made a bunch of beanbags, and both kids love them. I think I also used 5 1/2" squares. At Michael's you can buy special bean bag filler. They're great sensory-wise, and easy and fun to throw.

Maybe a few dress-up hats, too. Babies that age love to pull hats over their heads and play peek-a-boo. Just floppy sunhat kind of things.

I needle felted some balls with bells inside that our 13m loves. We also got rid of some toys that didn't work all that well and upgraded them. Our new shape sorter is genius instead of the old clunker.

Knitted or felt finger puppets.

Some sort of stuffed animal
