I'm posting this here as an example of the types of injuries that CAN and ACTUALLY DO happen during circumcision.

It is an amputative surgery with very real risks.

"...but after an infant lost a portion of his penis during an operation with the Mogen clamp, a judge awarded $10.8 million in damages against the company."

Isn't that true of all circumcisions?

Does the lawyer post here? It sounds like David Llewellyn is the attorney who normally takes these cases. I understand he wouldn't be able to discuss specifics, but I'm curious to know if the parents in these cases say that they'll leave future boys intact or if they'll just use a different circ technique? I'm curious because I once read an interview from the Canadian parents whose son died. They said they didn't regret the circ, per se, and they'd still circ future sons.

The psychological concept of cognitive dissonance sometimes makes regret difficult.

That's what I was thinking.

I suppose the good news is:

I hope every single red cent of this money is in a trust that his parents can't touch (except to pay for his medical expenses). They should not in any way profit from the damage they caused to this poor baby.

I know a woman whose son almost died from a circ gone wrong (he almost bled to death and required many reconstructive surgeries and will never have a "normal" penis even by circ standards). The doctor totally screwed it up, knew there was excessive bleeding, and covered it and said nothing. The mother, at least when I discussed it with her when he was around 4 months old, said she WOULD still circ future boys. I haven't discussed it with her since (he's 4 years old now, I believe), but I do still keep in touch with her on facebook. He also completely refused to nurse and, as much as she tried (I was working with her on it), he never did get back on the breast. So, so sad.

Fyrestorm knows what I'm talking about...she posted about it on here when it happened.
