Had my first "AHA!" moment with a stranger today!

So I had a shirt made a few weeks ago and it says "His Body, His Choice!" on the front and the back says "10 out of 10 Babies Say NO To Circumcision!" I had all the words done in BOLD like 6" black and Red letters on a white shirt so you can see me coming a mile away . At first DH thought I was nuts for wanting a shirt like this, but today he was able to see why...

I went to his softball game at our church and as I was taking dd#2 to the porta-potty, I had an "aha!" moment with a guy from another team. Went like this...

Him: Hey, I like your shirt!
Me: Thanks! Dh thinks I'm weird to want to let everyone know how I feel about circ, but I like to make people think. Do you support bodily integrity?
Him: I don't have any kids yet, but I've been watching you walk around for awhile, and your shirt got me thinking when I read the front. Your right, its their choice since its their body. Do you have any other info?

:j oy
We had a great convo about it all, and he was so upset the choice was taken away from him by the time we were done talking, but dead set on not doing the same to his kids!

This is the first time I've had someone approach me with questions. Most of the time i just get stared at for wearing something "so out there" like this in public. Even if I make 100 people uncomfortable I DON'T CARE ANYMORE because if I get through to 1 person it is all worth it!

Definitely a good day indeed!

You rock!!!
I've only seen that slogan as a bumper sticker, never as a shirt. I bet you get a lot of people to think!

I wish I felt I could be so bold with my intactivism. I do have the Yoda shirt that says "May the foreskin be with you".

I don't really care about making strangers uncomfortable. I care about making my children uncomfortable. I don't think my teens would appreciate me announcing their penile status to the world. Maybe I'm projecting....but I would have been mortified (as a child) if my mother had gone around talking to people about my genitalia.

I can understand where you are coming from.

I never talk directly about my childrens genitals. I just talk about it as a human right to choose. And actually this guy didn't even realize I had a son (a cousin wanted to hold him during the game) until we started talking. He had only seen me with our girls. My girls know about what circ is already and they will openly tell people they shouldn't cut babies (sometimes without any tack at all) because we have a very open view and speak plainly with our kids about their bodies so they will never be ashamed of them. So I doubt I could make my girls uncomfy speaking about penis's. As our son grows older, I will speak to him to, and if he's fine then I will def keep speaking out...but if he has a prob, then I will def stop when he is around. I never want to embarrass my kids!

Thanks! I saw that Yoda design on something when I was searching but I can't remember what. I thought that was pretty cool!

I got the idea from the shirts I saw on the Intact America site for sale, but I never wear T-shirts so I just had one made on a style of shirt I liked. I will say the first time I wore it I was aware of people's reactions...but now I just put it on and go about my day. Sometimes when I see someone making a strange face at me I actually think to myself, man whats their prob? because I totally forget I even have it on It wasn't something that happened right away, but I will say that I have a lot more guts now to talk to people then I did before. I guess you could say I came out of the closet so to speak! lol

Very cool, please keep wearing the shirt.

I thank God that my two oldest were both girls. Until I started researching natural childbirth with my third child (which was also our first boy) I had never not even ONCE heard or read anything about not circing your baby boys. It never even crossed my mind as something you could choose not to do. I have since learned that just about everyone in my small appalachian community grew up with the same idea and many of them only hear about choosing not to circ for the first time when I discuss it with them. You would be amazed at how many people, myself included at one point, have never seen an intact penis and truly believe it is just some extra little piece of skin and not a big deal.

Knowledge is power, keep putting it out there!
