Question about Subchorionic Bleeds

Hi all, I posted a couple weeks back about having some bleeding. The doctor found that I had a very small clot (less than 1cm) and was not too worried about it.

I had two red "gushing" episodes about 3 days apart and the last one of those was about 10 days ago. How long did you ladies have brown spotting afterwards? My spotting went away for a day or two, but is back this morning. It's brown and not heavy, but it's there.

Does anyone remember how long their spotting lasted?

I had multiple clots, some passed and some stayed to be reabsorbed slowly, and spotted for about a month or so.

Thanks Poppy, I guess it's not time to panic then. It helps to know what to expect.

I had a subchorionic bleed with my first and I bled and spotted brown off and on until 14 weeks. At 14 weeks I bled pretty heavily and then it was done. My son is 14 months.

I found subchorionic bleed to be very stressful and ultimately just annoying because it came and went and I always wondered. Know that it may take awhile or may come and go but most likely everything is ok.

This was my experience too. My daughter is 17 months old. I just wanted to offer you some Try not to worry too much.

I had one at 12.5 wks with Ds & bled brown blood for what seemed like forever. I wish I could remember exactly how long, but it was definitely weeks. I was told a sub-chorionic hemorrhage could lead to a smaller baby, but Ds was 8lbs, 4.5 oz & 22" long.

Feel better soon, mama.

The lack of information I was given about the issue caused an enormous amount of stress for me. I ended up getting an inexpensive ($65) ultrasound thingy so I could listen to the heart rate whenever I felt nervous. That's what saved my nerves.

I had spotting for FOUR MONTHS with my last daughter. No u/s as my midwife said a subchorionic bleed that early was nothing that could be treated. They also said it's usually harmless, and outcomes are in many studies the same as for women without bleeding. So to relax but that I didn't even need to take it easy.

Relax. Hahaha!

However, the rest of the pregnancy was normal and she was born perfectly wonderful at 41.5 weeks.

Good luck mama. I know how frustrating and stressful it can be.

At 7 weeks, I had a red gush of bleeding that lasted about 4-5 hours. U/s showed a subchorionic hemorrage of about 2cm. Had several more u/s over the next few weeks and it was always there, but no more bleeding. I didn't spot after the 1 day. By my 19 week u/s, it was reabsorbed. I'm 30 weeks now and have had no more bleeding.

The red gush was so scary, though. There was so much blood and it came so fast and I have already had 2 previous losses. I was convinced this baby was gone too until I saw the heart just beating away.

**Just wanted to add that with my 2 losses, I did not have subchorionic bleeds or any other bleeding. Docs never seemed worried about this bleed.

I have an ultrasound dx SCH but haven't actually bled. I know that they can very common and just as everyone bruises a little differently, different women and different SCH behave differently. If your doctor isn't worried and you trust your doctor, I'd try to relax. I know, I know, easier said than done!!! We too got a doppler and have been pleased to occassionally be able to relieve that anxiety. The hypnosis track about pregnancy after loss has been really good too.

I wish you peace and a beautiful baby!

Funny, I asked my doctor about getting a doppler for home and he advised against it. He knows me quite well (I've been seeing him for 10 years) and said that they sometimes have trouble finding the heartbeat and they're used to doing it. How would I feel if I couldn't find the heartbeat at home? I thought that was a pretty good point as I'm an anxious person to start with and would absolutely have a meltdown if the hb was tough to find or if I couldn't find it.

One more question, did you ladies abstain from intercourse for the entire pregnancy? Just until the spotting stopped? Not at all? I need to ask my doctor about that. I'm not exactly interested right now, but 5.5 months is a looong time...

We abstained (even before we knew about the SCH) until I felt like it. I figured no sex drive was a way for my body to say, "This probably isn't a good idea." Then when I felt like it again we did. I had told DH that probably during the 2nd trimester I'd feel up for it so that he wasn't under the impression that we were never going to dtd again.

There is no need to abstain from sex with a SCB, as far as I was told. Of course I'm not a doctor. I was told that it would not make any difference for the type of spotting I had. We didn't do it a lot as I didn't feel like it much but we did it. Ask your doctor, though.

I will most definitely ask at my next appointment. Thanks for responding. And this may be too personal, but did that include orgasm? I'm just wondering about the contractions that happen with orgasm and if that would make the bleeding worse? I'll certainly ask my doctor about that as well. Just curious as to your experiences if you're willing to share.

No, I was wayyy to tense to come close... there was pleasure but no Os when I was in the first and second trimester. I tried to look at it more as a massage at that time... LOL
