My 15 year old cat is peeing everywhere

I have a 15 year old cat who is really sweet and wonderful. It is a really big problem that he is peeing everywhere around the house. On clothing, rugs and anything he feels. I HATE this so much. I have put on clothing for the day before realizing that he peed on my skirt.

I haven't called the vet yet because $$ is an issue but I plan to see what they say.

He has a clean litter box that is always available. Any ideas?

My experience has been that often when an otherwise emotionally balanced cat starts urinating inappropriately, it's a urinary tract infection or some other problem with the urinary tract (blockage, etc.)

I'd get him to the vet ASAP! These issues can be deadly, quickly.

At his age my first thought is a medical condition. Its important to get it treated soon, not just because the cat is sick, but because the longer his symptoms cause him to pee in inappropriate places the harder it will be to get him back to using the box when he is will. Perhaps the vet could work out a payment plan for you?

My parents are dealing with this right now with their cat. She is 17 and is doing the same thing - peeing on everything in the house. Thankfully she hasn't done the furniture yet, but it's been rugs, newspapers, clothing, towels, blankets. etc. They've taken her to the vet several times and they can't find any UTIs or anything else. My mom actually ordered her kitty diapers out of desperation.
