storing rice

What's the best way of storing 25lbs of rice? We go through it fairly quickly, but I have small children and worry about one of them getting in to it and making a huge mess (it's happened plenty of times before!)

Thanks!

I bought a food grade plastic bucket with lid at the hardware store and store my 25lb bags of rice in that. I just put it bag and all in the bucket.

I use food grade plastic buckets as well. The ones I happened to have were too small to put the bag in, so I just dumped the rice in, and put a lid on it.

I buy mine in large quantity too. I store rice in large ziplock freezer bags, on a pantry shelf in the (unfinished but dry) basement. Then I have a cannister in the kitchen pantry which I refill with rice as needed.

I'd get a big plastic bucket and order a gama seal lid online... they make it easy to get in/out of. I have big glass jars (ball creative or something), but I wouldn't buy them again - if you break a lid, the jar becomes worthless (I've written ball asking for replacements, and they refuse. Ugh. Wish I'd known that before I bought so stinkin many!!)

We have a largish canister in the kitchen and keep the bulk bag in our basement freezer--I fear bugs. ha.

My grocery store bakery will give you the empty plastic buckets that that nasty cake icing comes in. I've gotten several of those to store bulk flour, sugar and rice in.

If you wash the buckets in the bathtub, be sure to scrub the tub really well after. Something in that icing makes the tub insanely slippery.

We use food grade 5 gallon buckets with gamma seal lids for our rice and other bulk items here also.

Thanks guys. Went to Costco today and found a bin with seal that is food grade. It's massive, so next time I'll be buying the 50lb bag of rice.
