Pre-fold Sizing

Hi everyone,

I need to get a larger size pre-fold for my son who is 17 weeks and about 15+ lbs. I've been using GMD, first the newborn size now the smalls. For some strange reason I had convinced myself that he'd fit the smalls a little longer than 2 months. Now I'm trying to decide if I should skip the Mediums and go for the Large...I've also been looking at Little Lions and the Imagine pre-folds at Nikki's Diapers and now my head is Really swimming!

Please, please help!

I have three different kinds of prefolds for my 4 month old, 15.5 lb. son. Little Lions Capri, Little Lions Regular and GMD red-edged. Actually, I also have premiums but I don't regularly use those.

The capri, regular and premium are all the same width, just different lengths and thicknesses. If you like to pin or snappi (vs. just trifolding and laying the diaper into a wrap), the width doesn't leave you a lot to work with. They're big enough around, but they'll probably be too narrow before his first birthday. The capri are the "right" length -- no folding down required. I wouldn't recommend you buy those now, because he'd grow out of them pretty quickly. The regular are thinner than the 4x8x4 prefolds you're used to, but since a good bit of it needs to be folded down in the front, right where you need extra absorbency, they work really well without a lot of extra bulk. They're a good daytime diaper. The price is great at Little Lions, too. the premiums are really bulky right now --okay for nighttime.

The red-edged are a nice fit right now, and since they're wider they'll last longer. Since babes tend to get longer rather than wider after they start walking, I think we might even make it to his second birthday with pinning/snappi-ing these if he'll sit still for them to be fastened then.

I think I'd a dozen each of red and brown if you just want to order from GMD. I think just the brown-edged would be really bulky for a babe this big. I haven't actually tried them, but they're as long and thick as my blue-edged premiums, but even wider so they'd have even more bulk. If you want three dozen, I'd get a dozen of the regular prefolds from little lions too.
