Source for large (48+ inch) over the fire camp grill?

I am thinking about fall and I am itching to enjoy the outdoors.

We have a square stone outdoor fire pit. I have spent the better part of the afternoon trying to find a grill to lay over the edge of the fire pit so I can cook outside.

I can find plenty of small, over the fire, grills but all are small. The largest I found was 36" wide.

Anyone know of a resource for a large, heavy duty over the fire camp grill?

Nothing commercial. My next door neighbors have a REALLY big fire pit. Not sure if it's bigger than yours or not. They have this grate hanging from a frame over the pit. It's cool, as you can raise and lower it over the fire. They bought it from a guy who does iron/metal work. Since they bought it, I've noticed a lot of metal works places. So my suggestion would be to check out if you can find someone to make it for you. Blacksmiths, metal workers and welders would be good places to try.

The grate that is over our fire pit, we found at a yard sale. Craigslist is another potential source.

Similar to this?

I think this would work but fear the cost to ship from B.C. to the east coast US would make it too $$$$

I am thinking of taking a picture of the above to the metal place up the road and asking them if they could do something similar.

No, it doesn't look like that. The grate and attached chains are similar, but their frame has horseshoes welded on it and the chain is attached to the handles of the grate, which sit in the horseshoes. Two people (one on each side) pick up the grate to move it up and down. It's not on gear like that one appears to be. (I know I'm not describing it well, but it's a lot less complicated that the one pictured. And I know they paid less than $100 for it.)

I bet you could get a simple one built for much less than the one pictured. It wouldn't hurt to do as you suggested and at least ask with picture in-hand. Good luck!

I was just going to suggest something like that. I know a number of people who could make something like what you are looking for.

Well I'd use more than one piece so it's easier to remove, you can always add brick or stone to prop up the other end in the middle.
