Kefir ? - Converting dairy grains to juice grains

Hi. I think I goofed but wanted to check here first.

I'm off casein this month and needed to use my kefir grains. I rinsed them well and used half to make coconut milk kefir and half to make apple juice kefir. Both are nummy - especially the "apple soda", which my husband and kids are diggin'.

I put the grains back in dairy milk in the fridge (in separate containers). I know I can use milk kefir grains to make juice kefir and coconut milk kefir. Can I use them for dairy again? Should I keep them in dairy milk or some other medium now? The grains I used for the juice kefir are yellowish - the coconut milked grains look the same, but maybe they're changed too...

I think the apple juiced grains should maybe just be used for a few more batches of juice kefir and tossed, but I dunno.

Okay. Passionate Homemaking says this about using dairy grains for coconut milk:

"Cultures for Health suggests that it may take a batch or two for the milk kefir grains to adapt to coconut milk but if the milk doesn’t kefir properly during the adjustment period, it is still safe to cook with. They do recommend returning the grains to cow or goat milk periodically to refresh them (and they can adapt back to making raw cow/goat milk kefir)."

Still wondering if I messed up the apple juice grains by putting them back in milk.
