Bare bottom adventures...

Anyone else potty training and want to share the highlights of the journey?

We're on a crash course to get this thing done asap and it's an interesting thing so much so that there is a lot of opinions about how it should and shouldn't be done. We're just winging it, much like we've done the rest of our parenting only to find out it has a name: attachment parenting, co-sleeping, breastfeeding. Well we've been loosely practicing EC with our 18mo DS since he was born, but now we have a 2mo DD and double duty at the changing table is wearing me down. So toilet training is in full swing at the Russell house. We have mostly wood floors minus the large wool area rug in the living room which seems to be pretty much water resistant. Today we did the first FULL day with no diaper. He's been using a little potty since he could crawl but it was interesting to see how the BM would go. Of course after several attempts to use the little seat on the toilet and the little potty to no avail, legs squeezed and whining resulted in a successful corner squat. All those years of cleaning up after my dogs paid off. We put the poop in the potty and made it clear that's where it goes. And trailed it off into the real potty for it's decent into the underworld of sewage. He flushed maybe 3 times while I was cleaning the potty in celebration of his latest accomplishment. Maybe tomorrow he'll go in the potty.

Love the story, you have a knack for writing!

We have had one fast potty learner and 2 slow learners. DS took about 6 months of naked/barely clothed times and DD2 has been telling us when she wants to go since 17months. She is now 2yo (just last month) and isn't anywhere close to trying clothes on. (For some reason they pee in their pants if they have clothes on but don't usually miss if naked). I am waiting for the day the lightbulb really clicks on. We have been really close once where she was only wearing a diaper for bedtime and out of the house but then she woke one morning and backtracked so we just go with the flow.

It can be a wild ride but it is fun to hear it written as you did. Here is to our potty learners may they get the hang of it and save my (our?) furniture. lol

Well, we are on the other side of the PT divide.

DD had/has an insane ability to hold her pee. At 18 months, we used to let her go nakid for hours at a time and she would never have an accident. I never thought that was odd until now.

From the beginning she was in control of the potty. In fact, the first time she used her little potty I did not find it till the next day. She always just played, got the look, and ran to the potty. I never had to remind her to go.

Now, when we go out I have stopped asking her to go. She let's me know, and I am always surprised at how long she will go. (A couple of months ago I would put her on the potty every time I saw one. )

At first, she would not go poops in the potty, but ask for a diaper and go to her special spot. She would go once a day if that. When we did get her to go on the potty (by bribery) she went a month going about 8 times a day.

For months and months she would wake up with dry diapers. We actually were worried at first, thinking she was dehydrated. We did not even put it together that she was ready to go diaperless at night. Since switching to underwear at night she has yet to wet the bed. She sleeps about 11 hours and never gets up to pee! She drinks a ton before going to bed, and we don't even sweat making sure she goes right before bed. Is she some kind of abomination?

I never thought we would be done with diapers by her second birthday. I always said to myself that I would start later so that it would be easier. But, his was a breeze.

Our battles right now are with wiping and wearing pants around the house. I am so sick of emptying the little potty, and when she goes on the toilet she slides down smearing poop on the seat.

So that was/is our adventure!

my 19 m.o. has been spending alot of time naked. Sometimes he lets me know when he has to go, somtimes i step in a pile of wet He usually points to it and says 'uh oh'. He hasn't had any bm while nakey. He brings me a diaper and won't go until it's on. Util yesterday. He pood on the deck, stepped in, walked across his outdoor kitchen, then peed all over it. The kid was on a roll! It was his first time pooing without a diaper, so I choose to take it as a victory. We cleaned it up and he loved cleaning his kitchen with disinfecting wipes. I loved it until he decided to eat them. I guess it's a learning experiance for both of us.

I've been having my son use the potty since he was about 9 months old. He likes it fine, and will be and poop no problem for the most part. So we do a lot of naked time. Last week, we went outside to play in the kiddie pool and lounge around, and I figured, hey, he can be naked and get some sun. We were outside for 20 minutes, then came back inside and literally the second he got in the door, he pooped on the rug. We were on the way to the potty, but I guess that rug was just too tempting. I've cleaned up so much poop lately, I think it might be worse than the dog!
