A Day In The Life of Your Babe's Tummy, what goes in?

Im just curious how you and what you feed your babies. My baby is "small" to some,including the ever-so accurate percentiles, so Im not sure if he's getting enough or what. Here is my info

Babe's age: coming up to 11 months
Approx. Weight: 19 and half pounds
Height: I have it somewhere on a piece of paper...
Teeth?: none

Morning Meal: Organic cereal mixed with prune juice, maybe some pureed fruit or crushed baby biscuits for extra calories

Morning Snack: Puree'd fruit or whole fruit, organic cheerios/whole cereal, juice/water

Lunch: cheese, whole veggie or fruit, bread, meat from last night's dinner normally

Afternoon Snack: fruit, biscuits/crackers

Dinner: organic cereal mixed with veggie or fruit, bits of whatever Im eating for dinner (meat, veggies, grain)

Does that include nursing throughout the day too? I assume it does, but then again, you know what happens when we assume...

That looks like a TON of food to me. At 11 months DS would nurse frequently and nibble at fruit/veggies/dry cereal. He never ate anywhere near a baby-sized portion. (heck, still doesn't most times)

He eats small amounts frequently in between naps. He unfortunately weaned himself 2 months ago to only early morning, evening and night feedings, when ever he is still. I supplement with stage 2 similac about 3-4 times a day, having about 4-6 oz each time. My mum is always saying he needs to eat more, and with his weight, I just have no idea what other moms are feeding their babes. I feel comfortable with his size, he is lean and round and I follow his cues for food.

I can only tell you today, since every day is different. I will say though that rather than adding fruit or grains for an increase of calories, something high fat lime CO, whole fat yogurt or avocado would be more effective.

Today for breakfast he had maybe 1/4 of an egg, and maybe 2 Tbs of cottage cheese mixed with fresh peach. Lunch was olives, mozzarella balls and baked beans (maybe 2-3 T total), and dinner was about 3 T of mofongo (mashed plantain). That's in addition to 28 oz of formula between the time we got out of bed and when he went to sleep a few minutes ago. And he'll usually drink another 10-15 oz between now and morning.

And this is a 10 mo who weighs 20 lbs.

DS just turned 8 months, so I am no judge really, of what babies 11 months old or so "should" be eating . . .he gets mostly breastmilk, maybe a jar around lunch time, and sometimes some of what we have for dinner, like potatoes, miso soup, etc. But he doesn't get solids every day.

If your baby looks healthy to you, he probably is - DS is just barely 17 lbs, 27+ inches and has 2 teeth.

My DD is 11mo, about 19lbs and roughly 27" long. She's in about the 10th % for height, but she comes from some short people so I think it's normal.. Yesterday she ate..

Breakfast: 1 large strawberry, 15ish blueberries, 1/4 banana, and small bit of toast.
Lunch: Pizza crust and tomatoes
Dinner: 20ish blackbeans, 5 small pcs chicken, 1 slice of tomato

She is still nursing a lot, so she gets most of her calories that way. I would say she nurses every 2-4 hours around the clock.

I just read an ARTICLE about babies under 12mo weaning on their own and it's VERY rare. Most babies do go through a very distractable nursing stage between 7-10mo or so. If you replace the nursing sessions with formula many babies will easily get used to the change, that does not mean your baby was trying to wean. There is no such thing as a baby naturally weaning to formula. I think that it's very possible for you to increase your supply and start to replace the formula feedings with the breast again. It might take a week or two, but bf is supply and demand and your body will adjust. Good luck!

Yes thank you Abraisme, my baby loves pizza crusts and tomatoes too! I read the article, I would love for him to breastfeed more, he is soooo active for his age, always has been so he just wont lie down on my lap to nurse anymore. I tried a couple of months ago when he eating was less and less, different rooms, complete quiet, soft music, lying down, sitting on the couch, outside, anywhere and anyway to get him to sit and suck long enough for let down but i still cant find the right time during the day, only while hes sleepy in bed. Even before naps he wont latch because I think he associates it with sleep, and he doesnt want to miss anything. I have always had supply problems,he was a nicu baby for the first 5 days and my milk was brought in through a combo of nursing and pumping. He would always just drain me, eating a couple of times an hour, month-long growth spurts. I tried pumping extra after feedings or other times during the day (I have a medela harmony hand pump and I think it sucks) I tried drinking lots and lots of water everyday, always kept my calories up, skin to skin, lots of babywearing, fenugreek and blessed thistle tinctures from a naturopath and no improvement. Ive had to supplement the whole time, I tried organic soy formula's, nutramigen but he wouldnt tolerate it, he would not eat them or spit up alot, Similac is what he was given in the hospital and it agrees with his stomach. I felt it was weaning, but I know in the back of my head it was me. It was a hard time, I was having to move alot and travel alot and I got in the habit of giving a bottle while travelling because LO was in the car alot for long periods of time, I became so flustered breastfeeding in the car. He just had more and more, I began a new birth control. I want to get it back, formula is hugely expensive.

Avocado's were one his first foods but he wont eat them anymore, although he does like guacamole. By the sounds of it Im in the right direction for food, I was worried he ate too much fruit, Its hard to get him to eat veggies. He is Mr. Independent and loves to feed himself, he gets so proud and wont eat very much except his breakfast from a spoon. He's still a little too "flingy" to eat with a spoon on his own, and he has no teeth so its difficult to give him variety. He is gifted at eating and chewing with no teeth though, I have some good ideas from you mama's for food choices, thank you very much

My son is small also and eats a ton... He's 11 months and weighs 15lbs and is about 25 - 26 inches. He is still breastfed on demand... I haven't tracked how often though but I'd say at least 6 times a day.

Yesterday he ate:

Breakfast - waffles and blueberries

Lunch - baked squash, corn on the cob and a nectarine (cut into chunks)

Dinner - he tends to eat what we eat for dinner. Yesterday was salmon wrapped in prosciutto with herb lentils with plain yogurt.

My son is 9.5 months, he eats a TON and is also a very active baby.

This am he's eaten a couple slices of cheddar cheese, nursed 3xs and it's 9:30, he currently is chasing his sister while she drives her little push car. I think most of it burns off him.

On a typical day he eats breakfast, nurses, am snack, nursing, lunch, nurses again, pm snack, then dinner. I work 3 nights a week and I usually have a 9 oz bottle of pumped milk, but in the 5 hours I am gone, that's not enough. He is supplemented with a couple bottles of formula while I'm gone. That's in addition to his dinner, snack and pumped milk-my son can seriously eat, I have never seen a baby eat so much. He also spends 1/2 the night on my boob.

The boy weighs probably 20 lbs and is 29 inches-I'm guessing, a month ago he was almost 19lbs and 28 inches. His dad's family have some high metabolism going on, so that's not surprising he's like this.

My son is short and small. 16 lbs and 26 inches at 9 months.
He eats a little some days and a bit more some days. The most he eats in a given day and is probably 15% solids.
He is a very distracted type nurser and won't really nurse when we are out.. he nurses 6-8 times in 24 hours ( always before both naps and bed and 1-2 times at night).
Breakfast- some organic rice crispies
snack- some pretzels ( we were at a b-day party)
lunch- 1 bite of homemade mac and cheese
dinner- lots of bites of homemade mac and cheese, a slice of cumcumber, some carrots shredded

I'm worried that DD may eat too much meat. She loves meat!

Today:
AM - 1 Tbs of rice cereal with 1 tsp apple sauce mixed in. The only reason I give her rice cereal or oatmeal is to mix in her probiotics. A couple of tiny pieces of my own regular oatmeal (for the first time - and she really liked it). About 5 puffs. A slice of banana.

lunch - half of a plum (it was an off day for her in terms of lunch because her nap schedule was off).

dinner - half of an egg yolk, (many!) pieces of chicken, steamed spinach, baked potato, the other half of the plum. I usually break little pea-sized pieces of our dinner and put them on her tray. She almost eats them as fast as I put them down. And she goes crazy over chicken.

Is it okay that she eats a lot of chicken compared to everything else?

Protein and fat are both crucial to brain development. And better for her than anything high in sugar (fruit, grains, potato, etc.).

DS is 2 weeks away from turning one, weighs around 20 lbs, is 27 inches tall, has 6 teeth, and is still mostly breastfed. he will have the once-in-a-while solid meal, mostly when we are out and about and i want to keep him entertained, but at home, i rarely give him something solid. every couple days or so, he may have a banana, or some green beans off my plate, or a piece of bread. we don't feed him any meat because we currently can't afford grass fed beef or organic chicken.
