Is this a good price for 1/2 a cow?

The price will be around $700, including any butchering fees, etc. We are splitting the cost and meat with my parents so we'll be paying $350 for about 170lbs (that is the weight before slaughter and packaging). It seems like a good price to us, but I've been wanting to contact a few other farms to see what their prices are. The lady said that before the butcher fee, it's at $2.29/lb.

Yeah, $350 is approx. what we're going to pay for 1/2 of a cow.

I am getting 1/4 of a cow in a week or so and my price before butchering is going to be $1.75-$2 lb. plus butchering fees.

That's a good price. Generally you'll walk away with around 60% of hanging weight in usable meat (not including extra soup bones, tallow, etc.). So 170 lb. hanging weight becomes around 100 lbs. of meat so it works out to be about $3.50 lb.

Thanks! I thought it was, but just wanted to be sure as this is the first time we've purchased bulk beef. We won't get it until the end of the year.. I can hardly wait!
