cloth eez prefolds

I am wanting to start with prefolds for the newborn stage and until the baby is 20 lbs -ish (my first was born about 8 lbs and got to 15 lbs in a matter of weeks).

I found these http://www.greenmountaindiapers.com/diapers.htm and I like the look of them, but honestly don't know what I am looking for

Last time around I used motherease, but did not enjoy the experience. They were too bulky until he was about 15 - 20 pounds and then they were not absorbent enough. I have a diapering system from South Africa that I like, but only for 15-20 lbs and up.

I have knitted some woolen covers. Do I need snappis or pins to go with the cover?

Thanks in advance

Personally, i'm not feeling the cloth-eez love, but i seem to be the only one. Bummis and UtN PFs were both far more absorbent, IME.

And yes, you will absolutely need pins or a Snappi. Wool wil not hold the diaper closed - you'd be washing the wool after every poo.

Thanks for the heads up on PF's. I just am not familiar with the terminology. What does UtN mean? (I am going to see if there is a sticky to answer this. If there is, obvisouly no need to answer)

I am by no means attached to cloth eez, I just found them on an internet search.

Ok, Under the Nile. But my word, they are more expensive in the extreme! it's $32 for 4 UtN and $21 for 12 cloth eez. UtN look gorgeous, but I am not sure I can justify that difference in price.

I got prefolds from here www.babycottonbottoms.com and they work great, I've been using them for 8 months, first the infant size and then the baby size. My DD started out at 9 and 1/2 pounds and is 20 pounds now.
The regular (premium) size is pretty long but I actually like it because I can get a great fold that makes it like a fitted diaper.
I really like the customer service from this site.

Oh yeah, definitely pins or snappi. I use a snappi.

Thanks for linking to that site. They look very similar to the cloth eez, and are pretty much the same price.

I have a friend who is bringing me back a stash. So I kinda need to decide now. I think I am going to go with infant size. DS was in newborn size for a couple of weeks tops. I'll use sposies if I need to.

I saw in a review that a mum found them long enough, but not wide enough. Did you share this experience?

Everyone on the diaper boards recommends the GMD cloth-eez ones because they are cut wider than most prefold brands. Other good cut ones I have seen recommended costantly are Little Lions and Diaper Rite. I have only tried the diaper rite and some regular cheaper ones. And honestly I would go for one of those 3 brands only. The regular ones didnt work at all for us. They were not wide enough to go round the waist to snappi. I would get GMD, but they dont ship internationally. But I can vouch for the quality of the Diaper rite- they look like they will last forever!

I love, love, love the GMD cloth-eez prefolds! I have been using them for years. The dimensions are just right, they're absorbent and soft, and durable.

Snappis are a definite must.

We use the GMD prefolds! I love them...we have big babies as well and have the yellow edged and the brown edged, they work very well and are super soft. I agree that snappis or pins are a must!

yes, UtN is extremely expensive. Bummis is somewhere in between the two in price. About $30 per dozen IIRC. But like i said, i seem to be the only one that doesn't adore cloth-eez. I have no complaints fit-wise on the CE, although the UtN fit until 6 mos and the Bummis until about 8 mos (infant size on both). It's just that the red edge CE is less absorbent than an infant Bummi IME.

Put my vote in for the GMD prefolds love. We are now on our fourth size of them and so far they have all been abfab!

But I don't have a super wetter like Cristeen does.

Oooh, thanks all for such helpful replies!

I am going to put an order in for the GMD prefolds. My friend is bringing them back for me, so I don't have to worry about international shipping.

I have a slightly off topic question.

I have knitted a soaker and will knit a couple more in newborn size and infant size. I am using 100% merino wool. Do I need to soak them in lanolin before using? (I'm guessing yes - but this has only just crossed my mind)

i don't really care for cloth-eez. we have some chinese prefolds from gobabygoshop.com that i LOVE. they are softer and not as wide, and super easy to get a good fit, and they seem to be more absorbent. the cloth-eez PFs are soo bulky. we have to turn the chinese PF down in the front and back to fit my son correctly, and they are still not as bulky as cloth-eez.

Love the cloth-eez. I was expecting a big baby and only ordered 2 dz orange and 3 dz yellow before baby came. Didn't use the orange (had a giganto) but maybe next time.
