Hi Mamas,
Due date was Monday.
I started noticing mucous about 5 or 6 weeks ago sporadically. Every day for about 5 days now I have had a lot every time I use the restroom.
I have the worst care providers who basically think every question I ask is stupid, (when I asked last time she just said, oh yes mm hmm) so could any of you tell me if this is normal? How long does it last? How do I know that it is not an infection of some sort?
I hope this wasn't an inappropriate question for this board.

Sounds like your mucus plug! Totally normal and totally gross! :-) Its a good sign that labor will follow... although for me it was still 2 weeks away and then I had a bloody show and went into labor a couple days later.

I believe your mucus plug and bloody show are basically the same thing, but with a bloody show you will see a little bit of blood too.

On a side note I was at a babyshower this weekend with 7 lovely ladies and we got to talking about our mucus plug... None of us knew what it was the first time around! Most of us called our doctors saying "Uh... I have snot coming out of my you know where... So am I like dying?" hahaha!

If you have no pain and the discharge isn't green and/or doesn't smell "foul" it's probably not an infection. (This was the speech my doctor gave me today.)

A clear and/or red/pink/brown tinged mucous type discharge near or post term is almost certainly a good sign that your body is gearing up for labor. I had something similar to what you describe throughout the week prior to my daughter's actual birth.

I'm just here to echo the thoughts of the other posters. It sounds like your mucous plug and labor is just around the corner. Good luck!
