It's called the Landau reflex and should be present by 3-8 months. Pick up baby under belly to a "superman" type hold, preferably with one hand.

Do his head and legs stick straight out? If you gently push his head down do his legs go down too?

DD is 4.5 months. Yes, her legs and head stay straight out. When I pushed her head down, her legs bent in.

3.5 months, Cecilia held her head straight out but legs bent some. When my husband pushes on her head, her legs actually went up a bit, rather than down.

yep... we played 'superbaby!' all the time. She loved it and her head/legs totally did just that.
